Here's the headcanon: Dess is human, Asgore runs over her with a truck and hides her in the bunker, there is a dark fountain inside so Dess' dying body falls in the darkworld and the fake horns becomes a darkner that absorb the soul and becomes the knight, ready to avenge its owner's death (or more likely just get ran over all over again)

There's more similarities to Titans than you might realize. My first thought on seeing its weird human sihilouette when it first appeared is that it resembles some of the weird faces Flowey makes

I think that's halfway true. Gaster as the first person we talk to plays a similair narrative role to Flowey. Although in retrospect we think of the Annoying Dog as Toby's avatar, in UT itself and in the Kitckstarter stuff Flowey was his representative. Flowey also plays the meta textual role of being a veteran UT player, having exhausted all of the content in the game and wanting to see what we'll do next. Even when he's cut off, the second voice in the intro plays Flowey's remaning role by delivering the fake-out message of the game. i.e "Kill or be Killed"/"Your choices don't mater."
Despite that Flowey isn't a purely meta character and is involved in the backstory that kickstarted everything, so I do expect him to player some role. Even if Dess and Carol seem like the better analogues to Asriel and Asgore, and thus probably have the whole resurrected soulless child and parent taking drastic action, dynamic going on.

More about the meta-text of UT. Despite DR basically having Gaster as an in-universe game developer I don't think DR is, in universe, a game. Although UT being a game in universe is popular fanon, that's never said to be the case itself. We only interact with the world like it's a video game, something that's only really brought to light in the true pacifist ending where all the characters except for Flowey leave the Underground aka the confines of Undertale the Game/the Narrative.
Although, UT kind of went about this in a half-hearted manner. Kind of like Frisk being a character and a child, the game doesn't fully address it since UT is interested more in raw player and game/narrative contact.
DR draws a lot more explicit attention to this fact with Kris being his own person. Characters in universe point out how we aren't Kris and we literally open the game to see Gaster making a connection from us to the DR universe presumably though some sort of device. In that way, Gaster is sort of analogous to a game developer, while not literally developing DR as a game. He's just the person who made the DELTARUNE program in order to connect us to the DR world.

Personally, I'm all in on UT Asriel/Flowey somehow being Ralsei rather than the headband theory, which feels rife for a fakeout.
The creation of a Dark World would've allowed for Flowey to actually feel emotions without having a [Heart Shaped Object] of his own, and Sans is nearly walking proof that travel between the worlds is somehow possible.
Also, if Ralsei is just a simple physical object, then he can absolutely come to the festival, sure he might not be able to talk, but he'd still be able to experience it in some way, right? Tenna experienced the events of the Dreemurr household, as did Ramb, and all that other stuff.
Unless there was something that made him really really not want to leave the Dark World, like say, turning into an emotionless psychopath if he were to leave it.
We know that Dark World Experiments were done in the world of Undertale too now, thanks to finally understanding what Entry Number 17 meant.

Lets not forget that Asriel did turn into the physical manifestation of the Deltarune in his final form.

Kinda weird how his design incorporates 4 triangles/hearts though...

Feels a little coincidental that he'd have a striking resemblance to Asriel if he were to just have nothing that ties him to Kris or the Dreemurrs whatsoever.
I'm sure we'll eventually uncover wtf Ralsei actually is, but it'd feel weird for a headband to understand well... everything.

Oh I remember UT's genocide ending. In universe, Sans explains LV as your level of detachment from humanity, and EXP as your capacity to harm. Which doesn't really change in either interpretation of the world literally being a game or you player only interacting with it as a game, as either way its a part of the way the world works.
I think Chara mentioning GOLD is more revealing, as GOLD isn't some supernatural in universe magic force like LOVE. It's just literally gold, a source of wealth, Chara the demon in the genocide ending is talking about it self as a personification of that desire to see numbers go up and to wring 100% of the content out of something no matter what.
Which doesn't really matter if the world itself is a game, or if your interacting with the world like it's a game. As in the first case, those stats are just abstractions for the sake of you the player and you still like seeing those number go up.

The thing is the whole Alphys evacuating Monsters into areas you can't access do to your limited way to interact with the game, or Flowey's post pacifist ending plea only make sense if the world exist outside of the game. Flowey wants you to not do a True Reset as its the only thing that can bring the Monsters back into the game/narrative, but that desire is kind of predicated on a world existing outside of the game.
If there wasn't a world outside of the game/narrative, then there's literally nowhere for the characters to go afterwards and you not playing them game is them effectively being dead. Even as Asriel in his bossfight, his statement is more about how he'll outlast you until you quit. He says it himself, if you quit here and fuck off he can control the timeline as he wills. He wants you to put the game down so he can do what he wants. The world explicitly exists outside of the game and without the player here, elsewise his plan doesn't make any sense.

In the the genocide route, he's convinced that the Player is Chara, that you'll be able to leave the underground/narrative/game forever on your own terms with him. But Chara doesn't give a shit about that, and as a player you can only interact with the content in the game as is.
