The #MeToo stuff and the switch to ESG-friendly decisions really destroyed the company from the inside.
Even without that gay shit I think the rot was set in long before, when they decided to convert every single IP they had into an open-world busywork simulator.

Open-world busywork simulator WITH microtransactions. Ubisoft was one of the first game devs to go all in on mtx after EA.

Anyone played Riders Republic? It was recommended to me and I can buy a key for about 5 dollars.
It is peak Ubislop. Just watch this video
The TL;DR is that it is the lamest attempt to take lunch money from retarded kids I have ever seen, it is not a sports game let alone an extreme sports game. Find yourself a used 6th/7th gen disc or buy something from Steam if you really want to spend that $5. Something like PURE is much better.

I'm just glad BG&E2 remains trapped in development purgatory. Based on what little they ever bothered to show it looked like it was going to be the worst of every Ubisoft excess.

Noted and thank you. I sub to that channel, but I don't recall that particular video.

i got the ubisoft star wars game on discount. my early impressions so far is similar to many other ubisoft titles: not terrible not great just kinda mid. their attempts to appeal to the most amount of people lead it to that place and they wont learn from their mistakes until its too late, and thats if they do recognize them in the first place

It genuinely kills me that seemingly nobody in the whole fucking industry can make a proper bounty hunting Star Wars game.

You'd think after the brief success of the first season of the Mandalorian, some gigabrain MBA would have stumbled upon the fact that people want to play a Boba Fett type of character.

And the whole thing basically designs itself.

You gain money and beskar by completing bounties, and then can use beskar to improve your mando equipment, and can use the money to purchase weapons, equipment, ship and droid upgrades.

Do the whole RPG thing by letting the player specialize in stealth, ranged weapons like blaster and slug throwers, explosives, melee weapons ala vibroblades, let them decide what kind of armor they want to wear (light, medium, heavy), whether they want to take a jetpack, flamethrower, grappling hook etc. with them.

Then just let them travel to a few planets (open world maps) like you had in Jedi Survivor to hunt bounties, complete local quests, discover stuff etc. Maybe add a bunch of companions you can assemble, like a droid you can customize/upgrade, a slicer, pilot et al so you can assemble a motley crew of outcasts.

The real kicker is that Ubisoft could have recycled much of the AssCreed formula and systems when making such a game. They don't even need to invent an excuse for the "special sense"/scan these games have, the mando helmets are the perfect justification to have all manner of visual overlays and not feel out of place.

And yes, it's this fucking easy to make a compelling Star Wars game, but neither Disney, nor any liberal cuck in the gaming industry has the necessary IQ to get people to throw money at them.

There's a couple extra factors to remember, aside from how fucking retarded Ubisoft is.

1. The disney exclusivity deal with EA only ended in mid 2021. SW Outlaws was shat out by mid 2024. This means the game was either a rushed re-skin of something else(most ubisoft games are just reskins of eachother these days anyway), or it was actually crapped out within 3 years from start to finish which is pretty damned short for game development time and would explain why it comes off as half-baked.

2. Even though I said "aside from how retarded Ubisoft is" they are clearly dumb as rocks, and managed to fuck up the assassin's creed japan game everyone had been wanting for ages. It cannot be said enough just how stupid Ubisoft was to completely fuck that up. If they can't figure out how to make an Assassins Creed game set in historical Japan, with fucking ninjas, how are they going to make a scifi version?

And yes, it's this fucking easy to make a compelling Star Wars game, but neither Disney, nor any liberal cuck in the gaming industry has the necessary IQ to get people to throw money at them.
And yet we've still got jack and shit for star wars games. Aspyr was supposed to be remaking kotor and got fired and replaced. Quantic Dream's announcement of a game was a joke and subsequent shit show. Zero Company probably won't go enough into the x-com style details, and suck. Fate of the old Republic probably isn't going to be around for years. There's probably a 3rd game with that ginger jedi in the works, even though the director of the first 2 games already left the company. And we've got fucking Galactic Racer, whoopdeedoo, somehow this is a $70 game instead of a $40 budget title.

Yeah, the whole industry is fucked.

Gaming insiders and media shills have been begging for stealth games for decades so Ubisoft decided to give them one with their Star Wars smuggler game. Oops, turns out those people were just a very loud minority and most people actually just want to shoot shit.
Its not even a good stealth game. In order for those games to work they need to be bug-free and with understandable mechanics. And since this is Ubisoft it was both buggy and with an awkward, hard-to-use stealth system. Hell, it was so buggy I've seen a vid where someone does a takedown on a stormtrooper and he splits into three different ones as he's going down, instant game over.

Anyone know if this is real?

It's actually pretty fun. Music overall is pretty buns but you can pick and choose what you want to listen to, so you can curate your own soundtrack. Gameplay is fun, and it's a great pick up and play game. The world is pretty enjoyable to explore, and most sports are enjoyable. No real complaints from me tbh. It's sort of a jack of all trades, master of fun. Nothing stands out but it's just solid overall. And I don't do multiplayer anymore really, but the mass races are actually pretty cool.

From that video, it appears to be typical modern Ubisoft fare. Cluttered UI, bloated open world, obfuscating map layout, happy-go-lucky attitude, level gear, live service elements like season passes and microtransactions. Gameplay looks rigid and on-rails.

I got the complete edition for 15 bucks last year and feel like I got plenty from it. All I wanted was to bmx, skateboard, and snowboard so in that regard I got my money's worth. As far as on rails I'm not sure what you mean - you have plenty of freedom as far as controls go. Some people out there play full manual which I'm just not going to do lol. It's actually pretty difficult. If you mean on rails as far as gameplay loop I guess? But you can still treat the game like a sandbox tbh. And I don't care for the season pass stuff and the seasons themselves, or the microtransactions. I've not spent a penny on the game outside of buying it and never felt pressured to. You really can just play it casually and unlock tons of shit without paying extra or spending your life on the game, or even entertaining the seasons, I'm just talking about base game progression.

I know it's popular on kiwifarms to shit on everything, but my post history proves I'm not some ubi shill - I've wished for the death of them in the past and still hope they fuck off and die. But at the same time if a game is fun to me it's fun. I think rider's republic is fun and that's all I can ask for from these mf'ers at this point. They made a decent game. I will say though that it depends on what you want to get from it. Like I said there were 3 sports I was interested in, I got access to them all through the complete edition and enjoy them, and so I'm satisfied.

It's far from perfect but there's a reason it's one of the rare ubisoft games in recent times to hold a very positive rating on Steam, and it's not through ignorance on the consumer's behalf, because you know people are chomping at the bit to give EA, Activision, and Ubisoft their just desserts through reviews when given the opportunity. And it isn't the end all be all but if 8/10 people on Steam find the game good enough to give a positive review, there's something there.

Do you have to buy some sports as DLC?

Riders Republic is currently included with Game Pass (Premium.) I could always try it whenever, but like with skate., the experience gets bogged down through persistent grinding of repetitive activities.
