Let's take a break from the crazy lolcows of Tumblr and focus on something a little more... wild.

While reading through the 'Shoplifting Tumblrinas' thread, I suddenly remembered that Tumblr has a fully-fledged "drug fandom", as it is affectionately called by Tumblr users (sometimes it's referred to as the "meth fandom", too).

Yes, while people tend to regard Tumblr as a haven for special snowflakes and other oddities like that, Tumblr has a thriving drug community. No, I'm not talking about weed. That's nothing. I'm talking about meth and cocaine. I'm talking about actual tweakers, who sometimes actually take videos of their drug usage. It's baffling.

I'm not entirely sure what "don't burn the pipe/dope" means.

No... it goes much, much further. Just a quick scroll through the blog I posted will get you lovely videos of people straight up smoking meth or crack. Apparently sometimes these videos act as a way for you to "prove yourself" to get into Tweaker Nation or something.

Maybe because I have never done drugs but I just don't see the appeal, I have smoked maybe 2 splifs in my life and I didn't care for it but have seen friends get seriously fucked up using stuff way harder for recreation and it's not pleasant to see. An most of those friends did it when they where teens an are kinda ashamed by it, how anyone can glorify it baffles me no end.
I am not straight edge by any means, hell I only gave up smoking on sunday morning and I am drinking wine right now but there is Alcohol an then there is Coke. each is harmful but there is a difference.

They could've made it "on Wednesdays, we do meth." They could've had it actually fucking make some semblance of sense.

It's sad that THAT'S the part I'm bugged by, but at this point I can't even be too surprised.

And yeah, I don't get the appeal of hard drugs. Especially not meth--it doesn't even sound fun or pleasant to me. I mean, I'll smoke pot on occasion if I'm hanging with friends who happen to have some, and I drink (though rarely to excess), but I don't really get why you'd want to do anything harder than that. :/

People are better off not doing them, but they appeal to a certain base sensibility in some humans. I think they actually act differently, as a subjective experience, on people inclined to abuse them. Take heroin. Most people would be completely turned off by something that basically makes you puke when you do it the first time, like front-loading on binge drinking. Most animals know not to do something that makes them vomit (cats aside).

But to a druggie, it gives them something that nothing in reality does.
