"Trypophobia" is a word that I've only ever seen used on Tumblr, but apparently, it's the fear of holes, usually a series of tiny holes or clusters.
Some common examples:

Tumblrtistic people LOVE tagging everything that has the slightest amount of dots, clusters, or holes as "trypophobia," so their followers can be safe and avoid seeing it.

But when they DO stumble upon it, it results in some of the worst "triggering."

So, share your favorite trypophobes here.

I can understand someone being mildly squicked out by lotus seed pods, but the way Tumblrinas react is overreacting.

Tumblr's still doing this? I thought they moved on to scopophobia.

There's no such thing. It's the dumbest imaginary tumblr trigger ever. Anyone who claims to have this should be beaten into a fucking coma so they have something to be actually afraid of.
It's not actually a fear, it's basically just a strong disgust/aversion to things covered in small holes.

I always assumed it was some kind of evolutionary thing like the uncanny valley, so that we'd avoid maggoty rotting meat.

Yeah, basically. Most sources I can find of people actually trying to figure out this thing keep going back to basic, near-instinctual aversions to this kind of thing on the basis of avoiding rot, insect or parasitic infestation, or disease.

I half-way remember some article or something about the memetic spread of trypophobia among people but damned if I can even remember where to find it. I'm half worried I imagined it.

I don't really know if on this level it's really a phobia. To me it's more comparable to an adversion to gore or something; it's so incredibly common and it really doesn't make you special.

I imagine someone with an actual phobia of clusters would hyperventilate or something, and I'm not really sure would be "triggered" by photos unless they were taken in a specific way.

I dunno I'm rambling. Basically tumblr takes something everyone has but rarely talks about and tries to seem like they're special needs.

On Tumblr if you get even slightly uncomfortable after seeing something you found yourself your very own trigger to exploit and yell at people for not catering to it.

Tumblr doesn't believe in science. Just feels.

Well, technically trypophobia is defined as "the irrational fear of holes in skin" but most people use it to describe the gross feeling of seeing clusters of small holes.

Isn't this the thing where it's essentially "if you get grossed out by the Surinam toad giving birth you have this phobia" (the surinam toad gives birth by it's babies emerging from holes in it's back)
It doesn't seem like a real phobia that effects people's lives, if you see something like that (surinam toad) irl you'll just say "ew, gross" and move on, not have a fucking panic attack.

Yeah. For some reason at work me and the guys started talking about parasites, and the nurse there had worked in an ER before and she had some stories that had us all curled up in horror. The stuff you can pick up going to South American rainforests is terrifying. None of us would call ourselves trypophobic, but stories of worms coming out of a head would probably squick 95% of people.

Aww, don't be hating on parasites. They're pretty cool once you get to know them. And they are able to make some pretty crazy stories. Like the guy who had bot flies in his head, and he could hear them scraping their teeth against his skull at night. Or the worms that live inside people's eyes, and you have to slice the eye open to get them out. Or the tapeworms that get lost and end up in your brain where they make a giant cyst and kill you.
I like creepy nature stuff like parasites.

There was a screencap on here of someone asking people to tag a picture of a pizza that was triggering them. ..it was one of those pizzas with mini hot dogs for the crust. I mean. ..that's not even a cluster, it's just a line of holes. Itd be like getting triggered by perforated paper.
