The Space Thread - Launches, Events, Live Streams, Governments, Corporations, drama in Spaaaaaaaaaaaace
haha yeah if only the US could replicate the US achievements of the 60s too
Anyway China got to the moon first a couple hundred years ago, and then their princess turned into a rabbit or something, which I'm pretty sure is technology NASA still doesn't have. Burger envy is an ugly thing.
The Chinese are rapidly replicating the achievements that the US and Soviets reached in the 60s and 70s, and it's only taken them 50 years! It's so Joever...
We'll see how much of a space power they are while their economy struggles for the next 20 years. Lots of weird economic issues boiling over for them right now because of the young not working and the old not being replaced as a result of all their weird policies the past 50 years.
Come the fuck on now with these weird, cranky boomer copes about China collapsing soon. They caught up. They are churning out rockets and satellites now, responsible for about 30% of the global launches and growing. They also have their space station, their manned lunar program and everything else well on track. After how they have put entire industries like shipbuilding, batteries, EV manufacturing, photovoltaics, etc. neatly in their back pocket, there is little doubt that they could replicate it with space industry if they wanted. They have the numbers, they have the technology, they have the infrastructure, they have the money, they have the intent and they have the vision. They are not going to be a very credible competitor, they already are. It remains to be seen if the commercial space sector will be able to compete with it. Musk certainly thinks so and he is willing to throw money at it, so there will be a race. Wishful think about China just collapsing is simply inane, boomers wanting to compete with the idea of the 70s communist China living in their head, not the 2026 technocratic China that exists.
Money should be pouring into NASA and space startups by the billions instead of further budget cuts. The Lunar Gateway station getting cut after all the engineering and planning work was practically done was criminal alone. China did not cancel their plans for a lunar space station, but see it as a critical long-term infrastructural project. As it is now, the Artemis program is rushing to be the first to put a nigger on the moon, while China is seeking to build up a permanent lunar presence and dockyard for their eventual deep space missions.
Honest Qestion why do people care about space exploring other planets ect? aside from the The US and other governments getting to spend money I just really don't see the appeal.
In the 30 months until the latest date Artemis IV can touch the Moon on schedule we should be seeing at least one unmanned CLIPS lunar landing, the manned Artemis III test flight and at least one unmanned HLS lunar landing and return to orbit. I don't think they're going to make it.
Is SpaceX is still on the hook for supplying the lander for Artemis IV or has everything changed to TBD at that point?
They are still in the late Salyut/early Mir stage, if you want to make comparisons. It's impressive, but it took the US from from May 5 1961 to July 20 1969 to go from first crewed space launch to first crewed lunar landing, or 8 years 2 months 15 days.
On the other hand, China went from a first crewed launch on October 15 2003 to as late as 31 December 2030 for the projected crewed lunar landing date, or 23 years 2 months 16 days, or almost 3 times as long, and that will likely be delayed.
It's like saying banning exporting the M1A1 Abrams to China just lead to them building their own domestic tank industry. I'm not putting any bets on the likelihood of a bootleg, late-to-the-game Russian space program outpacing or outshining the US.
