I just watched this episode again last night and was thinking the same thing.None of these people have watched the episode of The Grand Tour where they try to bring fish from the coast inland in... Zimbabwe I think. Maybe Botswana.
What should be less than a days drive takes multiple days because what passes for roads outside of the "city" is full of mud and huge huge huge ruts.
When they finally get to the village it's made of, guess what? Mud huts and shacks.
I will say that the show did show that not everything in Africa is dust and mud and shacks. Many places in Africa are absolutely beautiful. But the stereotype is true too, as most are.
Like, yes there are metropolitan areas all over, but what do people -really- think when they think about Africa? Zebras 100%, yellow savannah grass, mud huts.
Blame the American education system or media or whatever, but it is an iconic image.
