Pedophilia is all about having power over someone weaker than you, which is why it can’t be “cured” or “fixed”.

There hasn't been much investigation or research on pedophiles and exactly what causes them to do what they do. Preliminary research suggests, that this is not actually a sexual orientation, but a pathological urge. They found in other anecdotal scenarios that after chemically castrating pedophiles they still preyed on children, just with objects instead.

So this would suggest that there's some psychopathic element. But obviously due to the current cultural climate, there will be not any further investment on investigation of this.
