The episode finally aired.

I knew it'd cap with a lame cop out, but a fucking "it was all a dream within four other dreams" ending? Even the titanic monument to shit Simpsons episodes that was "That 90s Show" had more guts than this. The Family Guy crossover was better than this.

It's funny, until I found out who she really was, I thought she had some relation to Jeff (the guy with the puppets).

But yeah, this has made me lose all respect for the show. Fuck, I don't think I could muster up anything for this episode other than "What the hell did I just watch?"

I think the only praise I can even give the episode is how surprisingly snappy the animation was during the opening scene (reminded me a bit of the earlier seasons and how they normally did that kind of animation). But otherwise I have next to nothing to say other than "What the hell?" But as far as episodes go, it's up there with some of the worst/most stupid the recent seasons have to offer. But I wouldn't go as far to say that the FG crossover was better than this.
 
I watched this episode, then I watched 'Homer Bad Man'

The difference is obvious and very depressing...

Increasingly desperate and hacky writers at the helm of the show.

The funny thing is, you could still get some mileage out of a "Homer and Marge are breaking up" storyline if you actually stuck with it for more than one episode and made Homer and Marge's new SOs characters who actually stuck around. South Park is absolutely pummeling The Simpsons in terms of quality and relevance right now specifically because they're going out of their way to not reset the shows continuity anymore, and even before Stone and Parker started this they were still consistently running storylines with teeth and modern cultural relevance like the episodes about Muhammad.
 
This was on my Facebook news feed: "The Simpsons has really been going downhill lately."

Downhill? LATELY? The show hasn't been funny since season 10. We're on season 27 right now.
 
Watching The Simpsons on FXX last year was an interesting experience, because there were some great episodes and really bad ones. The constant guest stars are cancer to the show. I read that Lisa's permanent conversion to vegetarianism was a concession they did to have Paul McCartney on the show, and the other guest stars are just used in the most inane and ludicrous plots, like Lisa becoming a magician, or some whole episode on some Southern accent girl we never saw again.

That was one of the reasons why, I think, Marge vs. the Monorail was a great episode, because they DIDN'T suck up to the guest star (Takei was first choice for that episode, but he wanted the episode rewritten to be more even-handed toward public transportation).
 
Anyone else think the only reason Fox is keeping Simpsons on the air is solely so they can attempt to break and make TV records?
 
I think The Simpsons should've ended with the season Phil Hartman passed away (10).
