1946 - 1949: The Ciscadian War. The Ciscadian population never really enjoyed living under the majority Austrolatines. They were Protestant and English speaking peoples governed by a Catholic and Spanish speaking majority. They also faced persecution and a suppression of their culture, with Spanish being taught over English and the suppression of the Anglican and Presbyterian churches. Things boiled over twice before with the Redleg Uprising of 1856 and the Gloucester Riots of 1914. The spark for this one was Defacement Movement, where Ciscadians would graffiti signs and make counterfeit books by translating them to English. The Republic's response was sending troops in to quell the unrest, but this sparked a revolt when a detachment of soldiers got panicked when hundreds of Ciscadians began heckling them and shots were fired, killing dozens. The revolt engulfed the North as both Ciscadians and Girians (creole speakers that make a minority through the north) waged guerrilla warfare against the central government. Peace was finally restored with the Betrayal at Southwark, where the entire town was burned and its citizens executed due to most of the rebel leadership taking refuge there.
