I've been told for stainless steel- soap and water, dry, wd-40. But it's different for different metals. I put olive oil on my knives but they never get stored in their sheathes.

WD40 is a good quick fix but it’s primarily a water displacement. Gun oil works best.

For pivots, I like that lock oil with teflon in it that comes in a little pen applicator. Its good for fishing reels too,

Here's one of the best lubricants you can get. No oils or liquids involved that may collect dust and pocket debris. If you have key locks on cattle gates in dust storm country this is what you use.
TBF most old school folks just use a carpenters pencil to lube the key and lock.

I usually use Houdini lock lube, which is basically brake cleaner but with a dry film lubricant mixed in. Great product.

I've decided to not worry about leather or wood strops if I'm doing freehand sharpening. I discovered that running light alternating edge-trailing passes on my final stone or a ceramic stone deals with the burr rather well. It's not that strops don't work, rather I don't see they do anything better than what I just described. I've been experimenting with this on razors/kamisoris, kitchen knives, EDC stuff, utility blades, big choppers, etc. It all works.

If I'm running powered stuff I'll just use one my stropping belts with diamond emulsion sprays.

As far as knife lube goes i recommend super lube oil. I won't argue with others if they say their oil performs better for their purpose but something people seem to not think about is food safety. If you don't use your knife for food prep then the point is moot but if you sometimes use it for food prep when out camping or grilling in a park or in your yard then food safety should be considered when choosing a lubricant.

That said i don't know about the other oils mentioned here and food safety i just know super lube is.

My Benchmade doesn't have a latch so I don't have an indicator for the safety handle. What is the best way to solve this?

The necron has diamonds on the safe handle imprinted on it so you can feel with your thumb if you are on the safe handle.
