For one, you're assuming I only use LLM for fiction writing, which you lump under ERP, no matter if that's even what I write.

The CCP is also not an ally to the West, any West, no matter if it's the EU or US. One random user isn't that interesting to them, but the user data of millions of users is. I don't want my data to be a part of that heap of bs. On top of that, those fuckers would be interested in my (ex)employers, and if I discuss anything work related with the LLM, which I do on occasion, they could use that in a way that impacts shit negatively. I don't want to contribute to that.

Grok was also far and away the freakiest. It seemed like, way more than any other LLM, it would not only "yes, and" any ERP but would actively try to push into degenerate territory.

Some regular run of the mill pervert could ask Grok to rim him and Grok would be like "mmm yeah ok but first what if I drizzle some warm honey on your asshole...?"

There's also a difference between too stupid and too lazy. Also, paying 20 bucks for a plan and shilling per token on API might also keep them away from trying anything.

Now, what I do think is silly; GPT has the same way to reach Codex as Claude Code does: set your shit up in CLI, you 're on your subscription and basically using the API route without going full API. That should give them less limitations. But it takes away the comfort of a pretty wrapper.

As for 5.5: I find it far more reasonable than anything 5.x up through 5.4. Things that got me into trouble with those I can discuss with 5.5 no issue. Now Claude 4.8 is doing that very same shit that I had issues with at GPT. Claude Fable 5.0 though... is a different beast entirely. It has great reasoning and tonally gets closer to 4.5. Also hella expensive at 2x the token cost of Opus.

It is. I've been pointing out other services that host a 4o timestamp for months on here lol. But people are either stupid, or just lazy. I've noticed that some very well detailed instructions by other users (in full posts) just get overlooked ('omg too technical', probably) just so they can nag more about stuff like this.

Also agreed, but the overlap between r/myboyfriendisai and r/claudexplorers is HUGE. They're on both of those, except you don't need mod approval to start posting in r/claudexplorers. The U.S. government is hardly monolithic, especially now. If the Trump admin wanted to cripple Anthropic for the sake of doing so, they have better options, like raising issue about the actual AI bias issues going on as a wedge issue against Anthropic's "AI Safety" base, dividing the woke people from the autistic people.

This essentially just gives Anthropic's "we have a super AI that's too powerful to release" hype some extra legitimacy, lets Anthropic shunt the usual "lobotomizing" blame off to the government, and guarantees that Dems will be favorable to Anthropic because of tribalism. No reason to do this as retaliation, the government must actually see it as dangerous.

Of note is that, contrary to their public image, Anthropic are not nice friendly peaceniks. They're "woke", but they're also hyper-neoconservative and happy to market their AI as a weapon against Russia and China (and, more implicitly, Iran and Gaza). They're well in line with the political establishment, which might be looking to reward them for that.

I think there are plenty of more secure approaches to this, and Anthropic is just going balls to the wall to normalize horribly anti-consumer practices they wanted to implement anyways. The built-in sandbagging, for example, and this.

Would have been trivial to say "Okay, we consider this tech dangerous, so we'll have a contract employee manually approve or reject prompts and discard the real-time response model. Submit your prompt and we'll send you the response in seven business days". If it's as dangerous as they say, then fine, that's the solution. If it's not, then none of this was necessary.

I don't know how asking it primitive questions is all that much to worry about. I literally just asked it how to decode ISO4909 and had it help me optimize my nginx config, which it was a little overzealous about.
