I personally believe a person has a right to defend their own life. That includes against things killing you accidentally. So clearly I think a mother should be able to kill the fetus to protect her own life.

Further down that line, how much damage should a woman be expected to endure from pregnancy and childbirth? Most people would be ok with an abortion to prevent the mother from being paralyzed or something like that.

However, that still leaves the vast majority of abortions that aren't about life or health, but are about convenience and avoiding emotional hardship.

If you want to debate abortion law intelligently and have any hope of moving the conversation, you have to realize the number one disagreement is about the humanity of unborn fetuses. Trying to just unilaterally declare them nonhuman is never going to work, you have to present some kind of reason to believe that, aside from "a lot of people say it".
