I guess you never know what's obvious and what isn't to people, so I'm just going to throw shit out. Plus I'll even add commentary to be in line with DMCA. Josh can thank me later.


Born of Osiris I think is a reasonably popular band? The title track of angel or alien is awesome, it's got a strong hook to it because of the keyboard part which is a bit unusual for metal.

Their title track from their album Machine is pretty cool, although it mainly lives of the strength of the little harmonic sweep they do during the chorus which is an enormous tension release valve in the song:

Everyone knows about gojira, but The Art of Dying is my favorite song from them. When I first heard it I fucking hated it, but ever since then it's grown on me. At around 1:15 it sounds like they're chimping out on the snare drum, but it's a complex time signature, 21/16 to be exact.

Ghost Walking by Lamb of God. Check it out, it has anime shit going on in the video and everything.

The song I've Been Sober by Devildriver is unusual in that the whole thing doesn't come together until the outro, but when it does it's orgasmic. The guitarist for the band has said it's his favorite song of theirs for good reason.

I doubt there's anyone who's ever listened to metal who doesn't know who Mastodon is. They're a really cool band because 3 of their members, their bassist (some dude), lead guitarist (Brent Hinds, an absolute madman originally trained on Banjo) and their drummer (Brann Dailor, who is an incredible musician) all do lead vocals at various times. Examples:
Curl of the Burl: Hinds vocals

Blood and Thunder: Bassist guy vocals

Oblivion: Dailor on verse, bassist on pre-chorus, Hinds on chorus

The band Ne Obliviscares hasn't released a lot, but at least one of their songs, Forget Not, is extremely well composed. Plus I'll admit I'm a sucker for violin in metal.

So there's some stuff. Like I said, idk how commonly known any of it is, but hey.

Reminds me a bit of Orchid (good album) era Opeth, long, long ago before Mikael Ackerfeldt wussed out and completely stopped using harsh vocals.

Although there are a lot of those sort of Opeth-y bands out there. Hell, little do people realize the band In Flames used to be like that, their albums The Jester Race and Whoracle were both fairly Opeth-y and very good, crazy as it may seem today:

This one is really unique, never heard anything like it before. Worth checking out regardless.

Not sure if anyone is into dsbm, but this is pretty good if you're into atmospheric or ds black metal

Christ, I've spent so much money today on black metal vinyl (and recently in general). Here's what I got today. Just a single track from the Nexcoyotl album since the full thing isn't online.
