During a California Senate committee hearing on the Protect Our Games Act (AB 1921) the ESA lobbyist Jennifer Gibbons said that community-run Minecraft and Call of Duty servers ARE ILLEGAL under CURRENT, ALREADY EXISTING LAW. The comment came as the ESA opposed the bill, which aims to prevent games from becoming unplayable after publishers shut down official servers.

I don't think Scott realizes how much worse of a shitshow the Internet in general is compared to games. Its hard enough to try and get companies to let us just play the games we want without them forcing it online and trying to control it but he is now messing with a entirely different, much worse kettle of fish.

Those partners alone do not exactly inspire hope on me. I can't see any of them actually standing up to defend the Farms for example.

Yea I think they should get some victories under their belt, like at least one, before they try to expand their responsibilities

It would be like Lockheed saying 'you should listen to us for your new jet fighter, we have 25 years of f-35 experience on what not to do'

I honestly believe that he has absolutely bitten off more than he can chew in this instance.
The forces he is fighting against is an unholy alliance of various international governments who want tighter control & surveillance over what people can say and do online, well funded and politically connected tech companies who need better KYC for advertising + AI data purposes and parents who are tired of their kids getting groomed on Roblox or Discord.
The people who do not want this to happen are a multifaceted group of individuals who do not get along and are unsympathetic to the boomerocracy. You have the coom brained Discord groomers on one side, staunch libertarian privacy advocates in the middle and then uppercase I Internet racists and privacy schizos on the other. None of which are a major voting block or a real issue for those in power. At most they will have a Xitter or Bluesky meltdown for a week, circle jerk eachother's about Europe and Amerikkk becoming orwellian and then the legislation will continue to march forwards as if nothing had happened.

Most real world people do not care about this issue and regard those that do as schizophrenic losers who have something to hide (real world friends and family I have asked about censorship and tech privacy have word for word said "I do not do anything suspicious so I do not care").

The AI and tech companies are a major force in this as phone numbers, residential IP addresses and browser fingerprints are no longer as reliable as they used to be for identifying and tracking who is a real person and who is not. Chinese token resellers ("Transfer Stations") purchase simcards by the tens of thousands, use sophisticated AI to generate realistic faces and drivers licenses and use residential IP addresses from IOT botnets to purchase tokens and resell them to anyone who wants them.

1782782598372.png This drivers license is entirely AI fabricated. The carpet and mugshot are not real.

There was a decent video that went over the token forwarding and the sources it used were an interesting read. I was not able to get the full 404 media article so if someone has it that would be handy.

This is actually far more real because it claims it intends to release tartarus at some point, which would be the first usable web-facing proxy akin to what nginx/apache used to be in the cloudflare age where it is currently de-facto impossible to self host anything

By comparison, 'Stop killing the internet' is goy-opinion-box slacktivism

i don't really get why you would make this about EU vs America. the EU is more pro consumer but that does not mean its superior. America is better for free speech that does not make it superior. it means you would want to converge
