THE PARTIES:

Liz Murrill (acting on behalf of the State of Louisiana)
1755264562605.webp
Louisiana's Attorney General. As the Attorney General, she is the chief legal advisor for the State of Louisiana's judicial branch. On her website, she is self described as an "8th generation Louisianan" with over 3 decades of experience in her field of work.

Roblox Corporation
1755265034564.webp 1755265106271.webp
One of the largest gaming companies in the world. Started in 2006, Roblox serves as a digital platform for people of all ages to come together to create their own games, or "experiences" as they are called on the platform. These range from amateur games made by children who are just learning how to code, to fully fleshed out games made by game development studios.

BACKGROUND

On August 9th, 2025, Roblox banned all of the accounts of a user named @Schlep and sent a cease & desist to him.

Schlep was a Roblox YouTuber who's content revolved around catching pedophiles and child predators on the platform, somewhat akin to Chris Hansen's "To Catch a Predator". His work has caused multiple predators on Roblox to be arrested. Roblox had decided that he was in severe violation of their policies on child safety, and decided to terminate him. More information here.

Roblox would also update their rules, creating a specific rule against "vigilante groups".

To say this incident caused immense backlash is an understatement. Multiple Roblox YouTubers either threatened to or followed through with leaving their creator program, Roblox developers threatened to go on strike, and so on. There was a strong consensus from the Roblox community that Roblox, and it's moderation team, fail to do enough to protect children from predators. Most importantly, Congressman Ro Khanna petitioned Roblox to be more transparent about it's child safety procedures.

FACTS OF THE CASE

On August 14th, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill would publish an article announcing a lawsuit against Roblox. It reads as follows:

Today, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced legal action against Roblox, the #1 gaming site for children and teens.

The lawsuit, brought in the 21th Judicial District of Louisiana, shows that through its online gaming service, Roblox:

  • Has and continues to facilitate the distribution of child sexual abuse material and the sexual exploitation of Louisiana’s children.
  • Knowingly and intentionally fails to implement basic safety controls to protect child users from predators.
  • Knowingly and intentionally fails to provide notice to parents and child users of its dangers.
“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana. Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety. Every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger poised to their children by Roblox so they can prevent the unthinkable from ever happening in their own home,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.

Roblox is an interactive online gaming platform launched in 2006 that facilitates “experiences” for users. It allows and encourages users to communicate with each other in real time.

There are nearly 82 million daily active users and more than 6.4 million experiences within the system.

The company reports:
  • 20% of users are under 9 years of age
  • 20% are 9-12
  • 16% are 13-16
  • 44% are 17 years of age or older
Just last month in Livingston Parish, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the residence of an individual suspected of possessing child sexual abuse material. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was actively using the online platform Roblox. Notably, the individual was in possession of and had employed voice-altering technology designed to mimic the voice of a young female, allegedly for the purpose of luring and sexually exploiting minor users of the platform.

For these and other reasons, Roblox is in violation of Louisiana law. The State is seeking permanent injunctive relief and prohibiting them from:
  • Engaging in any activity in violation of Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices Act:
  • Representing that Roblox has adequate safety features
  • Restitution to the State of Louisiana
  • Attorney’s fees
  • All additional civil penalties allowable under law
  • All additional damages allowable under law
Shares of Roblox Corp (RBLX) have more than doubled this year and have advanced over 115% year to date.
To summarize, Murrill accused Roblox of being an unsafe platform for children, one that fails to moderate itself properly, and knowingly profits off of a "sex game advertised towards kids."

During MATI, Josh suggested a theory about why Roblox's CEO, David Baszucki, was so adamant about adding dating to the game. Josh believes it is because, as Hindenburg's Research suggests, Roblox's player base has not been growing and has been stagnant for a while, and so David's idea of including "dating" into Roblox is his attempt at trying to attract an actual, non-botted player base so that David would have to stop lying to his investors about the current metrics

After hearing this, I came up with my own theory in regards why Roblox was so aggressively protecting child predators on their platform. Since the player base doesn't grow anyway, continuing to ban people more and more seems like a really bad idea. You are essentially losing players without any economic return. And since the issue with child predators is such a huge problem, it is not unreasonable to assume that they make up a sizeable portion of Roblox's current playerbase

Now picture this, your company is stagnant, you are still printing thousands of dollars, but you aren't exactly growing in any way. You keep lying to your investors about the metrics in an attempt to save your company from decline. And now you are being told to remove a sizeable portion of your audience without any promise that you are gonna gain more players as a result. You, as a greedy CEO of an extremely large company, would obviously choose the safe option of trying to ignore the problem as much as possible, after all, there's no legal repercussions for you for turning a blind eye on predators, right?

This is exactly how I believe David thought, and is also why I believe this lawsuit is so important right now. David's decision to ignore predators on his platform would finally bite him in the ass and cause a financial crash for his company that he hasn't seen in a long time. At least that's what I'm hoping to see by the end of this

That's the most likely option, and it's the opinion I came to a while ago. Though the question must be asked? Why don't they create a Roblox like website for adults? It wouldn't be that hard, yeah it would be expensive but you'd get your growth metrics, you wouldn't be sued out the ass for child endangerment and false advertising, and your website's reputation wouldn't be dragged through the dirt by literally everyone.

It would likely be too costly to run both at the same time for Baszucki to see any worth in running the two. Repeating what Relinquish has said, he's most likely aware that online daters bring in a huge amount of money to the platform, and he's just following where the money goes. Just simple moral bankruptcy in favor of physical riches.

Defeats the purpose of ignoring the problem if you're doing stuff acknowledging it. Ruben Sim and co. will immediately highlight this and then ask why this wasn't done sooner, so you either catch this early and tell on the stagnant base or do nothing and try making a slush fund later. Money's only in one end here sadly.

I think he's assuming he's already long since screwed on his reputation, so instead of trying to step on the landmine sooner, he's trying to delay as much as possible and rake in the money while the cow can be milked.

Hence a probable slush fund of some kind lying around somewhere.

I been wondering
with the whole head of security at Roblox dumping his $800,000 shares
before the Schlep thing
its almost as if he knew that whatever was going to happen to Schelp would harm the company shares.

Which begs the theory

1. Did he do it for that sweet Moolah, authorizing the ban so he can make big bucks before shares drop
or
2. Was he/his staff forced to ban and remove Schelp because of other high positioned people in the company say "whats the big deal? its just some random punk who probably lives in his mom's basement. Now get rid of him before he fucks up our shares anymore. As for me. Im gonna go get me some 13yr old girls with my $1,000,000,000 robucks"

Jihad on you for posting King Hippo and then three minutes of a start screen. Kill yourself.

He realized most of his microtransaction income came from selling things to child groomers that they could use to groom children. Also, he personally gets off on grooming children. He's probably a pedophile himself. It's hard to imagine how someone could make so many decisions so harmful to the company he's running unless he had some other motive, like being a diddler himself.

Also his pedolaugh when people brought up "hey isn't this 'dating' thing kind of problematic and sheeit?" and he just pedolaughed. He was obviously personally invested in having adults "dating" children.

I'm betting (this will be obvious to some) he's corrupt and complicit in a lot of the grooming shit because he was the one who made the statement comparing "vigilante" groups to actual predators.

Why is this essentially the fourth ROBLOX thread? (going off of there being three on the first page) It's akin to how most communities generally have one thread, like Reddit or Wikipedia. The lawsuit is essentially about the ERP thread and this seems like it's creating a thread for the sake of having another.

I think we're all just excited that something is finally coming from all of this nonsense. I don't know if it's good etiquette or not for multiple threads, but I get why the threads are popping up.

There's a lot of discussion potential to be had with this specific lawsuit, especially if it actually goes somewhere. Also, different subcommunities on Reddit have their own threads if they are autistic enough to warrant them.

Yeah, this is the type of thing that would fit better (even if there are threads in community watch) with News & Articles or Happenings. Still, it's generally bad to split up threads because of organization (this is why major events or prominent figures have had their own unique subfora such as Gamergate, Janke, Balldo).

Plus:

Step 1. Use the search feature to see if a thread already exists! Try searching by Title in all boards using different aliases. Google can sometimes be more useful.
The thread existing with the ERP community thread.

When an entire state files lawsuits against a multinational corporation, it is entirely possible you will have literally hundreds of filings back and forth.
