You guys still having this discussion??

People were talking about games similar to Star Fox. Did anyone mention Steel Diver? I just remembered it existed while playing Aquas. Steel Diver was actually awesome.

Also huge missed opportunity for the remake to have a WaW Black Cats like level where you're constantly shifting gunner positions while the whole ship takes damage and you need to move depending on the enemy location. Plus it'd be a good way to have the whole crew constantly talk to you during the mission and show that the team can be high caliber professionals sans the constant banter when the situation requires it. (Peppy or Rob advising you on where to move next, Slippy running back and forth patching the constantly breaking ship while Falco curses every time a turret overheats or runs out of ammo)
Huge missed opportunity to once again add not-Star Fox to Star Fox.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask: How did everyone do their first run? I used the route I was the most familiar with to warm up. I got some of those medals by the skin of my teeth. I'm not sure if I'm just bad or it really is that hard especially to get the required amount in Aquas.

I still stand by it not being the remake I hoped for but levels actually seemed easier from what I remembered. I used to have trouble hitting the warps in Meteo on the N64; the Arwing seems to have more control than I remember when it picks up speed when I gave it a try in the remake.

I honestly wish for a Star fox crossover with the Darius series.
Or at least to work a little like that: branching levels of different difficulty leaving to a different final boss and ending each.
You play as a different character each time, whose identity and purpose during the war is gradually revealed between stages while star fox leads you, at the start of the final chapter, you finally get to know which character you have been and what exactly are your objectives, while earlier stages showcases common memories 2 or more character had.

Watched the info-dump video. Not much to work with. It confirms some things, such as how Venom is toxic but not fully inhospitable, that Andross was meant to be executed but the General intervened to go for an exile instead, the event that caused Andross' downfall has been censored (it has been retconned from "accidentally unleashing a rampaging beast in a city" into an unspecified disaster), there are (un)subtle implications that Andross has access to alien tech (likely the Aparoids), and the planet Saurian is seemingly ignored.
Maybe Krystall will be retconned out of the franchise for real, kek.

Well... Just look at how Katt was handled; I feel like your answer is right there.

They're going for realism here so I don't think we're going to see Krystal as a purple fox if she ever shows up again. They also made Katt a tomboy instead of letting her be a "Miss Bianca" (the mouse from Rescuers) type of character where she can be very feminine but gets in on the action too. They're still really sensitive about female portrayals so I can't see Krystal ever returning as she was. She was another one of those characters people bitched about for being "hyper sexualized".

Because Western game companies hate women for a decade due to DIE politics/dangerhairs on board so no woman can be portrayed in a feminine way anymore. They all must be tomboys or girlbosses at worst.
The broad from nu-Fable, the nigress of the first teaser pics, is a clear example. One so ugly she was remade to be slightly less ugly, kek. Considering how there's only ONE woman in this game and she's made ugly, it's telling what will be done to Krystal, if she even appears.

She was more blue than purple. Unless you mean when she was a cat. Either way, if they go with SFox2 next, they can ignore the furry vixen in the room for a few years before confirming or not whether Krys is canon anymore.

Because she was, but so was Lara Croft, for example, and no-one gave a fuck back then*. Granted, Krys is a blatant furry fetish, but giving the animal women the "Unreal Engine 5" treatment is excessive.

*Of course, for a decade Lara has been getting uglier and more desexualized, culminating with Netflix' TR with a Lara that has a blatant male body.

Man, some of these levels are insane when it comes to getting medals. I probably would've had an easier time if I hadn't died and still had double lasers, but still.

Besides that, I recommend hoarding your bombs. Don't ever use them for bosses*; save them for the minor enemies leading up to them. Especially in Venom 1 they're pretty essential to getting the medal. If you let one fly during the very first hoard of enemies, that's an instant 30 kills right there.

*Except when needed for the Zoness boss

The bomb advice from @Space Monkey Mafia is good. Let me add to it.

Many groups of enemies reward you if you eliminate the entire group. Usually it is rings. But several will give you a bomb. Learn these groups in each level.

What you can then do is use bombs wisely to improve your score, knowing that at least half of the bombs you fire will instantly be replenished. This game rewards replay and has a high skill ceiling.

Want the gold shit? Watch this:
Everything here still works. Except the double somersault on Corneria for the bomb and laser upgrade. Still haven't made that work.

Desynced charge shots are a game changer.

Very good learning video if you really want to get into this game. It is also among the very best speedrun videos.

If you're looking for newer stuff, Ex-Zodiac, which is one of the rare spiritual successors that's modeled on the SNES original instead of 64. S Ranking the stages is actually pretty difficult and requires some proper routing, so the dev actually knows ball when it comes to design. However it's currently in Early Access and has been for years, with new levels coming out at a glacial pace.
I actually tried it out before, and I’m torn. On one hand, if you want to ape Star Fox, you need to have voice acting, or else you’ll have to take your eyes off of the action to read the dialogue. On the other hand, with the state of modern voice acting, and with the pastel color palette, you know they’re gonna hire genderspecials to voice the characters.
yes Andrew is in a fucking neckbrace
“This is as close as you’ll get to the emperor!”

SHMUP ALL STARS.

Have any bullethell or shmup characters in an game.

Okay so I saw that Star Wolf still has their injured redesigns in Venom II if you defeat them on Fichina earlier in the route, too bad I'll never see it myself because the later is the worst level in the game for scoring points

The other guys? I can understand. But Andrew is somehow so motivated, dude is literally Kurt Angle'ing his way through the battle lmao.

Ex-Zodiac is really close. But his level design still feels very very alpha test.

No more than, say, Lola Bunny. Probably even a bit less.
Lola Bunny wasn't wearing a tribal bikini, was then blatantly ogled by the main character, and then reappeared with a form-fitting suit.
Shame Lola pretty much became yet another insufferable girl-boss.

He may be a nepo-baby but he's driven.

Yes but Lola Bunny was also very flirtatious, especially with Bugs. And that whole 'Don't call me doll' thing that was lifted from a Pamela Anderson movie (the one that's a rip-off of Casablanca). Pamela Anderson also inspired Tawna Bandicoot so Pamela Anderson is responsible for many a furfaggot.

But anyway, all Krystal did was wear a bikini, get called 'beautiful' by Fox and flirt with Fox (and Panther). Hardly worth massive amounts of outrage.

Fair, but Krys was bigger, in multiple ways, heh.

IT still caused it due to being a blatant sex symbol made by the dev to be his body-pillow*. Lightning did the same a decade later, but by FF13, only hardcore fans and lunatics still care about Squeenix.

*She also caused outrage thanks to Command's atrocious writing, but everyone pretends that one didn't happen.
