the literal only thing this rendition of ss13 has going for it is the shuttle mechanics, so naturally they are never really put in any sort of focus on the dev side and most of the roles are forced to ignore them entirely.
I can understand the shift in focus. The shuttle mechanics, while nice, are ultimately not what people want SS14 to be all about. They want it to be SS13 without the jankiness and instability of BYOND.
The true problem is that the faggots and trannies in charge want every SS14 server to be an SS13 hugbox faggot furry server, not realizing or intentionally ignoring that you need every side of the SS13 community to make it work. This has always been BYOND's silver bullet that has allowed it survive every other attempt to replace it, the fact that really is no one behind BYOND trying to stack the deck in one communities favor to the detriment of everyone else.
I think SS14 is the closest we have come to a true successor and it might one day dethrone the king, but its capped at the knees for the same reason as every other attempt at the throne. Poor management and blatant favoritism.
Lummox is based and all he does is push updates to BYOND. That all anyone ever needs or wants from a guy making a thing. Twitter was a mistake, discord was a mistake.
I feel the AGPL/GPL is poorly suited for a game of this nature. As it stands I believe the larger servers are parasitic in nature and against the intent of open-source and gaming. As now the outcomes are:
1) You gets your shit cloned by a larger codebase and your own server dies to a ERP yifffag station. Every server has your features now (AGPL option 1)
2) You get DMCA'd if you use any recent codebase, keep private and die (AGPL option 2)
3) You use libraries for everything secret, which gives a performance (?) hit. People don't believe you generally (Mattoks/Goonstation option)
4) You have some old codebase thats GPL and retards try to dmca/ddos/dox you, or have massive performance issues (GPL option)
5) You use the Gooncode base and be really far off from the other (CC-NC-SA option)
Surely, there's some method to make this not retarded (if we were to start from scratch).
1) AGPL "core engine (MC, eletrical, atmos, base "features", admin interface, network) with LGPL modules
2) MPL2
3) Source avalible?

The difference is that this isn't the first time SS13 has dealt with this problem. All that happens is that the fags, trannies and perverts push away all the normal people, some of who start their own forks for other normal people.
Sure, they can get infected by the fags, trannies and perverts again, but the ability to create your own forks allows SS13 to survive. Something that is questionable with SS14.

Pjb still owns the website, launcher, steampage, and the authservers with wizden having zero claim to any of it. I'm predicting a total pjb victory. It would be a nice contrast with what happened with MSO.
PJB has (temporarily?) removed the ability to use other auth servers on the main launcher. This will force servers to choose between PJBAuth or migrating to alternate, lower visibility infrastructure.
PJB has restored Wizard's Den servers and is quickly promoting forum randoms to get some basic jannying in the game. Is it really so easy to replace all of the SS14 Discord jannies? These men are scabs.
SS14 Discordians have been raiding the WizDen servers as they come up, although they just put up an announcement denouncing this practice.
Also highlighted in this message, the SS14 Discord has announced their intention to create an alternate launcher and infrastructure, joining the ranks of Space Station Multiverse and Space Station Beyond. This will be the fourth SS14 listing on Steam and other app stores as far as I am aware. It will be interesting to see what they call it as "Space Station 14" is already taken.
I dont really want to make a ss13 successor on account of 1. ss13 already exists and works adequately well 2. it would take a really really long time just to catch up and get parity, in fact ss14 failed to achieve that despite greater dedication and more time (although also greater retardation which may have more than offset the dedication in fairness)
