It was really fun after getting used to the janky melee, but eventually the jank combined with the bulletsponge enemies and lack of ammo wore me out so I haven't played for a month or so. Then they released that catastrophic update and I saw no need to return for a while. I know they reverted some of it, but the ammo famine and flaccid bolter damage aren't very tempting.
I've been thinking about picking this one up, though judging from some of the mixed reviews so far, I'm wondering if it's worth it? Anyone got suggestions?

If you have people you can regularly do operations and/or PVP with, and you're okay with similar games' progression system, then it's worth getting the basic version or when it's on sale. This is doubly true if you're a WH40k fan and have a soft spot for space marines.
I don't think the game's fully baked yet based on what the devs have said is coming out in Q1 of 2025 and I do think it'll improve quite a bit over time. Right now it's pretty okay and the customization options are fun to play with, but unlocking stuff does take grinding.
Bumping this thread from its long, Squat-like demise to post up a beta test version of the Firestorm over Kadaku mod from MirageKnight, the guy behind the various Firestorm over <X> mods for Dawn of War, for anyone interested in giving feedback.
Notable changes:
Weapon and armor balance based on a mix of codex and lore. Bolters are lovely weapons against chaff, the heavy bolter is useful at anti-everything like you'd expect a heavy bolter to be, and Rubrics will absolutely fuck your shit up if you give them half a chance thanks to their Inferno rounds. Better bring meltas and plasmas on Chaos missions unless you enjoy the sound of bolt rounds bouncing off power armor and invulnerable saves. Thankfully bolt pistols are effective against their mortal troopers.
Altered class loadouts: Generally more versatility to go with the weapons balance. Heavies get combat knives so they aren't useless in melee anymore, bolt and plasma pistols are usable by everyone so you always have a viable backup choice no matter your primary weapon, and the standard Tactical whatever dude gets power weapons, making him the perfect jack-of-all-trades with a potential loadout for every single combat scenario, just as the Founding Primarch intended. The other classes get shit but I don't fucking play them, hence you guys getting tagged in as testers.
SM1-style health regen: You get hurt, a finisher will get you back in the fight with health and armor restore. Stims are no longer 100% mandatory.
Changes also apply to campaign, not just co-op, so feel free to run around ripping and tearing with Titus as he once did.
EDIT: New version already, MK works fast when he puts his mind to it. You'll need to open up the .zip file, go past the mod folder, and then drop the local folder in your game's client_pc/root folder. If you've got anything in your local folder already, clean it out beforehand.
I must sperg and don't wanna shit up the warhammer thread with more non-hobby posts.
Patch 13 and it's trials of resolve/ultragrind ordeals has completely killed the fun of the game for me. Stratagems, siege and absolute difficulty have always fucking sucked so locking basic ass shit like chapter badges and iron halos from the Heavy, that most people unlocked by just playing the game during launch week, behind these tedious ass ordeals tied to these particular modes and difficulties is ludicrous to me. Especially with the changes they've made to siege.
You can't say these things are "prestige" rewards when you can just do custom strats to cheese more than half of them, or get carried to victory by friends/better teammates. There's no "sense of accomplishment" to be had with this shit. Its just relief that you're done and can finally use the png you wanted. Where's the prestige in the fucking Holwing Griffons, Guardians of The Covenant, Consecraters etc? Less than like 10% of the "community" even knows what a cherub or a servitor is, they won't give a shit about the obscure chapter you're dressed as.
And this community is so fucking retarded that attempting to explain how crazy it is to be expected to dump a few extra dozen or even hundred hours into the game just for some decals will get you booted from the discord and dogpiled anywhere else.
Not to mention these cunts simultaneously think the game is too easy, while also claiming a single low level completely tanks their runs 100% of the time and there needs to be level requirements. Idk how you can be so good that the hardest custom strats or battle arena settings are too easy, but carrying one low level is too much. Methinks this community is widely getting carried themselves, or modding their way to the goodies, and then coping when faced with reality.
Been playing since launch. Over 2k hours. Almost entirely solo until recently with a casual buddy. Ive got all the pre patch 13 stuff from every challenge and difficulty except pvp. Since this is current year and we need to qualify our gamer cred.
finally bought SM2 on sale a week ago, didn't do much with it right away because it was hot as shit and I didn't like the way my PC was sounding while the game was running, so today since the outside temperature was literally half of what it was (21 vs 42C) I decided to see if I could finish it in one sitting owing to its allegedly pretty short campaign (8-12 hours)
I did, just under 10 hours, and honestly while it wasn't necessarily bad it didn't wow me the same way SM1 did, I think most of it can be chalked up to tyranids simply being garbage enemies compared to Orks and later stages of the game turning into terminator spam meaning I either took a melta with me or would have to restart the level
my biggest worry was not even being able to run the thing at an acceptable framerate since my machine is almost a decade old, but FSR and frame generation came in clutch and allowed me to play at "120" fps and it didn't even look half as bad as the Oblivion remake
I certainly did not enjoy the overly complicated combat (especially since the gun finishers felt like they were happening on their own?) and basically every gun being inferior to the melta, only the multimelta and heavy bolter would match its firepower and both of them are temporary weapons, powersword is also simply the best melee hands down
granted I had to tone down the initial difficulty choice because the big tutorial tyranid ripped away my shield in one hit and killed me in the next two while i was stunlocked, not something i consider fun
I greatly appreciate this though
also, given the devs, the game was not bug free unless guardsmen are actually immune to being run over by leman russes

and idk, is there an entry in the codex autismos about punching air (figuratively)?
Test Sever for Patch 14. Some sperging about cosmetics.
-Raptors Pack is as much of a meme as I figured. A helmet with some tacticool lenses, a shoulder with a shroud, a shoulder with a shroud and tacticool greebles, and a breastplate with tacticool greebles. And some cloaks but whatever. It looks like shit that modders put together within the fist few months of launch.
-They removed the loincloth from the Blood Angels breastplate for the Assault because it might clip with the "new" robes and tabbards/cloths added to him and Tac. You can't have loincloths and capes at all.
-The robes and tabbards are locked behind more retarded ordeals. Shit like "800 melee/ranged" kills in PvP. PVP.
I just don't get why they don't put these fucking extra cosmetics in the accolade store. The basic tier tabbard from the Bulwark isn't something worth grinding for in fucking PvP. Chapter badges aren't worth grinding siege for. Iron Halos that came standard on the heavy don't need to be locked behind grinding weeklies.
And I really just can't wrap my head around their retarded obsession with "clipping" to the point they remove shit from cosmetics that didn't cause any issues, and restrict what you can and can't equip. If they cared so much then half of the snipers pauldrons wouldn't be ripping through his shoulder cloaks amd they wouldn't let you choose those options. It's just arbitrary bullshit that restricts player expression because Saber thinks a cape clipping with your loincloth is a problem. But only when they say it is. The fucking Sniper Champ has a loincloth and a cape. The new Heavy Champ does too. Asinine.
Partly because they clearly wanna make the actual Champions the founders. Makes sense. This is a game aimed at casuals, on the surface.
Another part is that the initial Sally Champ was the Sniper. Saber made it the Sniper because they're dumb faggots who thought only he should have a cloak because
-"lore"
and
-people might have gotten confused if they saw a Heavy or other class with a cloak. This is also why no one else could have Halos until recently even though every Bladeguard model has one and it's standard in their kit lmao.
-everyone bitched that it wasn't the Heavy to begin with The next 2nd try with be the Space Wolves who will be a Bladeguard/Bulwark with a Round Shield. Next after that will likely be Deathwatch for the new class in year 3. Lesser known/meme chapters like Raptors, Carcharodons, even the fuckin Lamenters and Exorcists, can/will get their own cosmetic packs or pieces though.
Raptors are getting a pack this patch(14), Exorcists later, the Space Sharks got one a few patches ago, and the Lamenters have data mined pieces in the game.
Is Darktide one of those multiplayer games that you buy for like a dollar and then are expected to spend 50 in DLC for classes, mission types and whatnot?
