Sony hate thread

Sony is now offering a "free" trial for SAAROS. And by "free" as in for PS+ Premium subscribers:

I mean who the fuck would ever pay to "rent" a digital movie just for the file to become inaccessible after you watched it?
The video-on-demand/pay-per-view model isn't new nor unique to game consoles, although it has historically been reserved for brand new movies and one-off sporting events.

I think I've used it once on Amazon because it was 3 bucks to rent or 15 to own***; it was the only film in a series of 5 not available for "free" through Prime and I couldn't be bothered waiting for the DVD to arrive (also the movie turned out to be total dogshit).

TL;DR It's a niggercattle thing.

So has most of this thread just never heard of the idea of renting movies? You know… go to a video store, pay a few dollars to rent a DVD, watch it at home, return it… has no one ever heard of that? Or the modern version, where instead of renting a physical copy of a movie, you stream a rental…? Want me to explain what a VCR is, too?

>b-but it’s a game console
Back in Ye Olden Days of 2007, we didn’t have 20 different devices per household that each had access to 20 different streaming services, and being able to turn on your TV and instantly watch whatever wasn’t on Netflix (the one single major streaming service at the time, which also only streamed to a PC) without leaving your home was a novel concept. iTunes (and probably a couple other services) had already been doing digital movie rentals for a few years, so Microsoft and Sony just threw it into their existing marketplaces. Sure, buying/renting a movie from a console seems dumb now, but it’s grandfathered in from a time when it actually made some sense.

From what I remember as well, digital movie purchases were also a lot cheaper than getting the physical DVDs. There were also movies that you sometimes just straight up couldn't find that were being published on Xbox and PlayStation.

People shit on consumers for falling for it, but normally when a trend happens, it's because people want it. It's why gamepass became a thing as well, which is basically the same exact thing as renting a video game from a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video but as a subscription service.

You're right, but the average consoomer is unfortunately a fucking retard and the rest of us get to deal with their dumb decision making.

There's no better example of that than GTA VI already having made $3B in pre sales. Three fucking billion for a game that is only going to be available digitally and is still pretty much half a year away from releasing and no gameplay has been shown. When you have a franchise like that, which might as well be called 'Money Printing Simulator' at this point, it means that not only can the dev/publisher do whatever they want, but it also emboldens the platform(s) they're releasing on to do what Sony has done this past couple of weeks.

There's no way Sony announces this bullshit in any other year other than when GTA VI is releasing. Just the cut they'll get from that game alone will probably sustain them for the next few years, maybe even the next decade when you take into account how many retards have kept a thirteen year old game in GTA V so profitable over the years.

Patrick S Tomlinson is fat.

Oh man. Soyny is going to rake in the money with all the MTX for GTAO2 when that launches in 2027.

And I bet the preorders didn’t include the gamers who only play GTAOnline.

GTA VI has it's own online subscription service similar to Xbox live, their plan seems to be less Fortnite and more WoW.
Edit: the preorders also include a "free trial" of the first month or whatever, and the subscription will be automatically renewed. Very likely almost none of the people who preordered realized this and will get scammed for years before they find out they've been paying.

Faggots finally returned to xitter to shill some garbage nobody cares about and they're getting annihilated in the comments:
bubba do you have a bigger res than ant size? can't read them fucking pixels.
still, it don't matter much, if they sold GTA6 well as a non-disc nothing will happen, the xwitter retards can be easily ignored.
