The Aghori are fucking awesome. The very name of their sect means "Those who lack fear". Their belief system completely rejects the concept of purity and impurity, which they demonstrate by... eating the dead and living in filth. Reza Aslan did a special where he went to India and tried to engage them in a conversation about religion: they just stole his booze, got him to throw himself into the filthiest part of the Ganges, and then started throwing their shit at him when they got bored. Kind of! Really, you have three groups of Aghori:
-"hard-line" believers who live in filth, beg for food, and live on the other side of the Ganges from most towns (due to ancient beliefs, only one bank of the Ganges is ever built on), where they lurk around waiting for the bodies thrown in the Ganges (which they then eat and fashion knives and amulets out of the bones).
-"Moderates" who live a lot like moderately devout brahmin (the priestly caste), except they do things like collect human skulls and fashion them into food bowls, smoke hash until they pass out, and build sick-ass altars to Shiva (Aghori is a sect of Shavi, the cult of Shiva, the god of destruction and renewal) that incorporate more strobe lights than a rave.
-"Reform" believers, who don't do any of the hardcore death cult shit but do a lot of good work in providing orphanages and schools for the Untouchables (as Aghori beliefs reject the idea that your soul can be contaminated by the physical world, they also reject the idea of the caste system; especially the beliefs surrounding the Untouchables that keep them trapped in a permanent underclass).
