To determine if someone is actually smart or not, I use my wife as a paragon.
She teaches History and Art in High School and the way she behaves with her students is the same she treats other people. If the topic at hand is one she knows well, she talks about it in a very calm and passionate way and explains without flaunting and/or acting superior. If she doesn't know it well or at all, she simply listens and asks questions.
I don't say this because she's my wife, but because I think smart people are actually this way.

If someone is unironically telling you their IQ level, it usually means that they're socially autistic. And that they don't have a real job
 
As a quick rule of thumb, if they bring up "God is dead", quoting Nietzsche, in order to be edgy and act like it was a positive, they've never read Nietzsche.

(Seriously though, read Nietzsche, he is quite funny)
 
I'm curious as to how one manages this level of pretension without being beaten to death with a chunk of their own frozen smug.
