Around the turn of the decade (2010) is when I got onto Tumblr and I mostly got on based on finding out it was the source of finding some screen shots of shows I like and all that. It was also the first real introduction I had to SJWs but being new to the concept and all to my mind these were 'mah people' ie, the writers and artist who were Black and so on who had a platform to share our work and not 'suffer' as they always throw that around. As someone who works on my own shit, my work has always been 'global'/adventure oriented meaning I like to have characters from a variety of places so the idea of 'inserting' characters was never new to me because I had always done it. Getting back on point though, the SJW art scene on Tumblr had really pulled me in and my naive mind at the time thought this was 'sharing', mostly attempts to show people that your leads didn't have to be White to be cool (Well, golly fucking gee. Not like there were already shows that made this point clear and better, RIGHT?) Around the same time, a CERTAIN massivly popular show based on a property from the 80s came out and everyone got into it, myself included. People on Tumblr were drawing the humanizations for it and then-
The shit started to happen.
Wanna make this clear right now; while doing this shit I did legit run into a lot of racist and creepy people trying to shut a lot of of artist down and if anything that was the shit that got me made, mostly the implications of race=personality types and so on but that's not the meat to this. What got crazy was how long I was spending debating how 'better' these characters would be if they were certain races and what not and yes, I was propped up and enabled by SJWs who would parade and shout from their accounts how they were anti-White/CiS/whatever they claimed to be the default. It would continue and continue and more art would be pumped out but the point where I realized how stupid this was happened when a certain episode of the show came out that sent so many in a fury over how 'abelist' it was. What resulted was a lot of fall out from people I had followed and thought were my friends because they went on a massive warpath and suddenly the things we were doing, 'sharing' art, stopped being fun and the whole thing revealed to it how much of a massive pile of ego-building white knighting all of this was. Eventually I just dropped out of the scene and went back to doing things simply because I like to because building Tumblr fans is the worst thing you can do for yourself. Some might ask 'But isn't it building a base?'
No, it's not because this is the reason why. The mere moment an event pops up and your reaction towards it isn't shown in an obsessive manner, your fans can turn into enemies and fucking eat you alive. It's not so much a manner of former fans thinking shit is lame but rather they will try to find any means of ruining your life over the most dumbest shit possible and I saw that happen with the show I mentioned as in they were sending DEATH THREATS to the voice actress over this dumb event.
Tumblr or SJWs as a whole don't understand how diversity works, neither with redraws or their own characters because they want two things out of it. They want the worship and popularity that comes from drawing a character that isn't White and they want the feeling in knowing that somehow because of that they're suddenly a groundbreaking creator because NO ONE has ever made a non-White, non-CIS character EVER BEFORE. As so many people have said in this thread, they don't embrace people but fetishize over them. Its a fetish because they can not see past the persons' outward appearance and comments like 'I fixed them' after adding on a ton of shit only shows it further. You are (and your characters) are not 'pure' or 'real' enough unless they are able to tack on whatever pet issues and things they can, in the end resulting in an amalgamation of physical traits and not much of a person within it to do anything else. It's visually pleasing to them because they can get off on the fact that they believe they have created something worth being praised over and that the poor underrepresented POCs/Minorities will be singing their name in praise. Why do you think SJWs get pissed off when their target audience rejects them? Because it shows to them that they have been denied that dick-sucking/pussy fingering reward they desire. They aren't in it for the true representation (if you can call it that); it starts and ends with THEM, no one else.
And I am not going to lie; the Black artists I have met who are deep in the SJW well are some of the biggest assholes I have ever fucking met. They're dismissive as fuck, rude as hell and they gleefully talk down do you if you're not Black or a 'passing' minority. One person I used to follow made salty ass comics about dealing with White people and it was the most stereotypical shit ever and a lot of 'Things that never happened for 1000 Alex shit' Angry looking Black chicks telling badly drawn White chicks to check their privilege, the 'Don't touch my hair' thing that doesn't happen as often as they cry about and just your basics over-glorified Tumblr art. They come to the site because they know they're protected no matter how awful they are and when I hear they DON'T have work in the industry I suddenly realize why and not just due to competition. They link their Tumblrs on their resumes and post ALL THIS SHIT about hating people, their potential co-workers, and so on so they advertise RIGHT THERE why they shouldn't be hired. And these are places that aren't Marvel or CN. These are places who know the risk of hiring people like this and don't want to take the chance of creating an ACTUAL toxic environment.
THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T USE A TUMBLR AS AN ART GALLERY ON YOUR RESUME and din't fucking believe anyone who says you HAVE to have one in order to set up an online portfolio. That's bullshit and there are better free sites that you can use to build up your portfolio.
Seriously, I can go on about how shit SJWs are at understanding cultures, their strange obsession with the hijab and how they can't color pick for dark skin characters worth a shit. It says something when my Black ass wants to slap the shit out of some kid who makes all these based assumptions on personalities based on the skin color of characters. I hate that. I fucking HATE that but this 'spoiler' has gone on too long but you know my story now. SJWism kills creativity because the end goal isn't to be creative. It's all about getting your ego stroked. Once you hit that peak where you have people following you, you get the idea that you don't have to improve or you don't have to experiment. Someone said it best further back in the thread but Tumblr is a form of uniformity in of itself despite the arguments against it. They're terrified of change and differences in art hence why nearly all of the art shared in this thread LOOKS EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME despite being done by different people. There is such a thing as a 'style', a movement you can say that happens in time but the best artists were able to work in this and still have their work easily told a part. You can't with Tumblr art because everyone forces each other to stay within a realm or face the threat of being labeled horrible or not have your work noticed.
