Should we post individual updates, or stick to megathreads?

So I'm realizing we may have a problem with the MICIS/Tupcalypse megathreads.

On one hand, whenever we post a seperate thread for major updates, that seperate thread gets way more responses and attention, because it is much easier for people to recognize when there's a new update at a glance - after all you only have to look for a new thread. This is exemplified by the fact that the Tupacalypse thread is pretty dead in the last week despite the fact that there have been a slew of new updates. That would never happen if we posted a separate thread, especially one with a title like "Eli wanders the desert while stoned, searching for Da Jew Peeramidz"...

On the other hand, some sagas have updates that are so frequent and minor (like VLOG-tember) they may "drown out" other more substantial threads, and it's much easier for a newcomer to read one giant thread. That's why I REALLY hesitate to break up events like VLOG-tember or VLOG-ust.

But I'm specifically talking about the MICIS and Tupacalypse megathreads here. If you guys think we should split them up (I do) I'll just create a new thread tag for Tupacalypse and we'll post updates individually from now on.

Opinions? Consequences?

You done goofed! Consequences will never be the same! Imma backtrace you...

Wait, what was the topic? Oh yeah.

Well, thread tags seems like the practical solution to me. It would be easier to dig up earlier material without wading through a 100+ page megathread, too.

I think more but smaller threads is a good idea. The mods can use their discretion if minor updates need to be merged with a bigger thread.

Personally I'd rather read 10, 7 page threads than a 70 page thread. I find it easier to manage, even though I'm reading the same amount, it just seems more manageable. If there's a thread I haven't seen and it has more than 10 pages I'm not as likely to read it.

That's just me. I'm sure others have different opinions.

Quite honestly, I don't think one giant megathread is easier for newcomers to read. It's intimidating. Hell, I didn't even start following jace for the longest, simply because it was nothing but one gigantic mega thread. Hell, I saw the immense amount of replies to the original thread and said "lolnope" I felt like I was too behind to ever catch up.
...and just lookit me now...getting crashed into piers and such....ya....
Anyways, my vote is for no mega threads.

Smaller threads. This will make it easier for people to find particular pieces of information. An informed populace is nessecary for our gamer democracy to function.

Alright this seems pretty unanimous so I'm going to start making the changes unless there's some major unvoiced dissent or something.

HOWEVER, we still have literally 100 pages of shit within the Tupacalypse thread and some more in the Jace General/MISIS threads that would be helped if they were seperated a little but, but I'm not sure what we should really do about those; should I just go through them and try to retroactively separate them as best as possible, or what? It would seem weird to just leave them now. I have no idea what is going to happen to those threads now.

Ideas?

I think it's OK to leave the Jace general thread the way it is. It can be like the Random Thoughts thread in Discussion, if someone posts something and it only gets a few replies it can be merged into that thread.

Tupacalypse is very strange as it has been going on for several months and we're not really sure when it will end. I don't see any reason to separate it, it sounds like it would be a lot of work with little benefit.

So they can be the exception to the megathread rule and in the future we can try to have threads be as small as possible.

Chances are nobody would actually be responding to something that happened that long ago, so I think you can safely leave them in the Megathread. At this point the best way to make it readable would be a wiki sort of write-up or a compilation of all the actual content posts from this site that thread.

Is there really a way to separate Tupacalypse? It was one week of updates and three months of our idle speculation before the latest flood of updates that you already separated.

what about the format that's used for chris? update sub-forum alongside a discussion sub-forum.

just move the back log of updates that actually matter into the updates forum and let all the random discussion be. makes it more approachable for new Jace followers and solves the issue of which updates deserve their own thread cause you can throw any minor stuff into the vlog-tember (or whatever) update thread and still have it visible.

Maybe you could have some sort of timeline thread stickied for both Tupacalypse and MISIS so people can get up to date.
