I don't think so. I think it has more to do with the fact that Netflix, as a subscription-only service, has a lot more accurate data about their viewership than broadcast and cable ever can. Netflix knows when someone watches a show for the first time, rewatches it, binges a whole season, skips episodes, etc. and they know exactly who is doing it. They don't have to rely on statistical sampling or self-reported ratings or advertiser reaction to figure out whether a show is worth making... they just look at their internal analytics.
If anything, these shows being cancelled prematurely is yet another example of how SJWs always behave: screech and screech about representation in media, then never bother to actually buy the product they asked for.
It's all their fault then. If you aren't going to watch the show you are screeching about then don't expect it to stick around for another season. Pirating probably played a role too. Just stop being a cheapo and pay for Netflix. If you want diversity so much then you have to support it yourself. Don't get mad at people for not watching something they aren't into while you pirate episodes and don't help support the show in any monetary way.
