Jill Smokler, mom of three and creator of the raw and honest website “Scary Mommy,” died on June 22 at age 48, two years after her diagnosis with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

“Jill spent her life telling the truth about motherhood — that it could be wonderful and impossible in the very same breath — and in doing so, she gave millions of women permission to stop pretending and feel a little less alone,” wrote her family in a statement shared with TODAY.com by her brother Matt Epstein.

“She was funny, fearless, generous, and entirely herself,” the statement continued. “More than anything she built, Jill was proudest of her three children, Lily, Ben, and Evan. We are heartbroken to lose her, and endlessly proud of the mark she left on the world.”

The obituary shared by the family describes Smokler’s contribution to the parenting conversation by saying she “wrote about the parts of motherhood that weren’t supposed to be said aloud: the mess, the boredom, the guilt, the flashes of rage, and the love so big it somehow made it all worthwhile. Scary Mommy wasn’t just a website. It was permission: to laugh, to admit it was hard, to tell the truth, and to be a great mother without pretending to enjoy every single second of it.”

Smokler started the “Scary Mommy” blog when she was home with three kids under 4. Now Evan, Ben and Lily are in their late teens and early 20s.

The kids’ father, Jeff Smokler, was married to Jill for 17 years. They divorced in 2017 because Jeff realized that he was gay. Even so, Smokler told TODAY.com in 2024 that her cancer diagnosis brought them together in a “weird way.”

She said, “Jeff is very cognizant of what I will be missing out on,” Smokler tells TODAY.com. “He’s helping me make the most of my time with the kids.”

In a tribute to his late ex-wife on Threads on June 22, Jeff Smokler wrote, “No words will ever convey 30 years of a life shared. Since I was 18 years old, Jill was my touchstone. Every part of who I am today was in part shaped by who she was — and who we were together. Our relationship was complicated, especially in the last several years, but it was also beautiful.”

In her first interview since receiving her glioblastoma diagnosis, Smokler told TODAY.com that she was feeling “not great. I keep alternating between feeling so profoundly sad and so pissed off.”

As always, Smokler didn’t hold back.

According to Cleveland Clinic, the fast-spreading brain cancer has no cure and life expectancy is 12 to 18 months. Roughly 7% of glioblastoma patients live beyond five years.

When Smokler shared her diagnosis on social media on May 3, 2024, she wrote: “Glioblastoma was not on my 2024 bingo card, alas here we are. Life changes fast, friends.”

“It’s been described to me as an octopus with tentacles,” Smokler told TODAY.com about her stage 4 cancer. “It’s not a one-time thing. It keeps coming back.”

“All I want to do is spend time with my kids, ideally on a beach because that’s my happy place,” Smokler shared at the time. “It’s so ridiculously bittersweet — I am trying to focus on the sweet part.”

I am seeing a lot of women younger than me with less common forms of cancer. One or two would be a coincidence but it just seems a lot. Wasn’t there a cluster of a dozen or so nurses with brain tumours at some hospital on the USA recently?
I also really dislike this kind of blogging, but wouldn’t wish that kind of death on anyone, with young kids it’s really sad too

The usual answer is the clot shot caused it. Who knows but I've also read stories of younger people, healthy people, getting weird cancer in recent years and have heard personal accounts where I live. Maybe those who got the shot did have their genes messed with. If so those companies need to be destroyed, in minecraft, along with cancer.

I think that cluster is pre Covid. Let me find it…https://www.bostonherald.com/2026/0...sed-with-brain-tumors-is-it-a-cancer-cluster/

11 who have worked there over the last 23 years. They have investigated and say nothing has been found but it makes you wonder. I wonder what the investigation actually looked at? My guess would be some radiation source in an adjacent floor or room that wasn’t shielded for years, and which was beaming out into wherever the nurses were often, and which has now been quietly removed. It would leave no trace at all.

As for coof shots, yes I think they can at the very least drive certain types of tumours.

Now the poor kids will have to live with dad and "his husband" if he has one or a random stream of homos if he doesn't.
Sad that the "mommy blogger" probably really was the safer parent.
Talk about not having a chance.

I will never celebrate someone dying in their 40s of brain cancer. Whether or not I actually mourn them depends on if they were complicit in their website being used to groom minors.

>writes retarded article on how to groom kids
>dies of literal brain cancer

Lol lmao even

Imagine being so insufferable your husband starts taking it up the ass just to get away from you

Maybe cancer is contagious after all. And you can get it from a website, like a computer virus that transfers to humans.

Let's explore the evidence:
Using mindful and inclusive language around pregnancy and birth is not about people being too sensitive or an act of political correctness and it’s certainly not about erasure.
Many continue to use binary terms such as “breasts, mommy, daddy, mothers, mamas, moms” and so forth without realizing how it excludes and dismisses many Black bodies who do not identify with these cis-gendered and heteronormative labels.
We need to be aware that some folks who breastfeed and give birth are not women and do not identify as women.

I think when you’re fat positive, you get to that point where I think you are able to recognize that health is not related to weight, and your worth is not related to your weight, and also being fat can be fabulous and sexy!
Pretty damning, in my opinion. It would be best for future "people of birth" to avoid this sort of thing, just in case.

Wonder what might be causing it:
"But this news that kids ages 5 and up can get their COVID vaccine isn’t all rainbows and butterflies either. There are parents who are co-parenting with brainwashed anti-vax morons claiming to know more than actual medical experts". - November 2021, Scary Mommy Blog

In her particular case, it's because she was Jewish. Glioblastoma is one of those things that has next to no risk factors because the brain is so well protected against carcinogens. Jews have a much higher incidence of this sort of thing because they're so inbred. The only other explanation, aside from really bad luck, would be routine gamma radiation exposure. And I'm going to guess she didn't do a lot of work involving radioactive materials.

Boxing and other head trauma will do it. People with a severe head injury past age 15 have roughly 10x the chances of getting glioblastoma.

I think the rise in cancers may be far less nefarious than some Covid plot and more simply down to all the massive amount of shit we exposed ourselves to the last 40 years of consumerism.

I am talking about every boondoggle, every fad gadget, every children’s toy from our childhood and our children’s, every kitchen appliance and utensil, every food, every diaper, every brand of cooking oil or mattress cover or fucking air freshener.

The old logic of the 80s and 90s was ‘well obviously it was all regulated and there was oversight and the government made sure nothing bad was sold to people’ at least to my young ass at the time.

Thanks to the Internet no one believes that shit anymore, not even the young. And no one believes what’s listed as part of the product is all that is in the product.

Can we finally acknowledge the logistics of manufacturing a hyper industrial consumerist global economy of billions of junk reliant on hundreds of different governments of varying levels of concern for human life is unmanageable?

Do you know which tumors are linked with the shot? I'm curious because that may explain the uptick in specific cancer I've seen in younger people. I've seen if affect healthy people so it can't be argued it's dietary or from a sedentary lifestyle either.

There was an old MadTV sketch of a mom or grandma showing home videos of her to her kids/grandkids. The videos showed putting crisco on kids for sunscreen and baking in the sun, playing with lawn darts, driving without seat belts and so on. The humor was 'we didn't know any better back then, it was considered safe'. The adage of we're the safest we've even been in history seems to bring little comfort because of our vast amount of knowledge at our fingertips. I don't know how to solve it all but an upside to all this is old crafts and slower living is coming back. It's easy to make your own bread, for example. I appreciate there's a push for more natural, healthy choices first before giving someone pills and crap food as a solution.

Do you know which tumors are linked with the shot?
I don’t think you can say x type is linked to the shot. What the shots seemed to do was mess around with the immune system. Your body constantly produces precancerous cells and mainly, your immune system takes them out. If you are immune suppressed then you have a higher risk of most cancers simply because of this.
There was also a lot of evidence that it was driving germinal centres and specific, already present tumours I to overdrive. Here is the link to that
I think the shots may have had an immune modulating effect, via a mechanism a bit like what happens the first time you encounter flu. The levels of the spike subunit were huge, massive antibody response to them, I cannot see how an imprinting effect could be ruled out. In that sense yes, it could alter the immune system. I’m less sure about burning out T cells but I’m open to it
Anecdata: a surgeon friend of mine and I were chatting and she mentioned how every patient she’d seen (they had just rolled out the shots at this point) had enlarged lymph nodes. Every single one, and most noticeable in most in the left armpit.
I think it was strongly driving germinal cell centres to proliferate and this is backed up here : https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmed.2021.798095/full

I work with genetics and medicine (scientist side, not medic just to be clear) and I think there’s a lot of potential in it BUT we still have no idea what a lot of this stuff does. I’ve been following mRNA/oligos/RNA type work pretty closely for years and been involved in some of it . It’s still very early days and we see some unpleasant side effects . The idea that it was ready to just inject into billions horrified me. The shots weren’t tested properly, the platform wasn’t anywhere near being ready for even a small scale human trial. The manufacturing was terrible, remember the Japanese kept rejecting batches for particulate contamination and it looks like there was a LOT of fragmented RNA, ds DNA and full plasmid in there too. It’s very disquieting
So this guy already had cancer but it’s pretty clear that the shots drove it into high gear.

The answer is; potentially all and any, perhaps not causing the initial tumour but suppressing the immune system which allows tumours to form and not be mopped up.
If it’s colon cancer you’re thinking of, I think there’s multiple things going on there. Perhaps the shots, via gut bacteria picking up the plasmid contamination and producing a lot of spike. And perhaps alterations in gut bacteria, due to antibiotic use, and poor diet. Crap foods, emulsifiers, HPV etc.

I can't quote or reply to you for some reason. Yes, it was colon cancer. I was trying to be vague and adhere to the site rules but it's so prevalent now I don't think it's PLing to talk about it. I appreciate your research and analysis, I am not really scientifically minded and to read and understand these reports go over my head at times. Too often information was suppressed for years after 2020 and I'm surprised that now we're able to discuss and link scientific studies about vaccines and the issues surrounding covid. One good thing is gut health awareness and knowledge is being discussed. I'm not saying to exchange pharma drugs for natural probiotics because we need real food to strike the balance, but there has been some good from all this tragedy.
