Kim Woo-Choong, the founder of the former Korean chaebol Daewoo, has passed away at the age of 82. The massive rise of Daewoo, and it's subsequent hard fall, represented the growth in South Korea, and how it turned from a third-world country, into a first-world one, in what seemingly is record time. It also didn't help that he embezzled company funds and fled offshore, right as the company was going right down the toilet.

Like everyone else I'm surprised he lived for so long behind bars. If he was sentenced to death in Texas he would have been dead ages ago.
