Man, another piece of my misspent youth gone like tears in rain. RIP Bonnie Tyler. "Holding Out For A Hero" was so goofy and delicious simultaneously that you couldn't help but love it. I still do not understand a single line of the lyrics to "Total Eclipse of the Heart", but that didn't stop me from dancing my (then) tiny ass off to it.

Fun fact: Both of these songs were written by Jim Steinman, who wrote most, if not all, of Meat Loaf's songs. Once you know that, you can see his signature sound. (Also Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing At All", which was actually supposed to be sung by Meat Loaf, but there was some kind of dispute with the record company, so the song ended up with Air Supply. I think it and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" were battling it out for number one on Billboard for a couple of weeks in 1984.

75 really doesn't seem that 'old' to die anymore, but a lot are. In the USA, it's 81.4 'average' for females. But I guess musicians and drinkers die younger, still sad. I really think the #'s are a bit skewed, but to me 80-90 is 'optimal' with modern medicine with 95 or so maxed.

I don't want to live to 80. By then you are a shadow of yourself. I trust enough in Heaven and God that there will be place for me in the clouds. No need to rush it but holding on to life might be a bad idea with dementia in my family.

That's just bullshit, 80's fine. 90's iffy, hell 100's ok really. Saw a lady at my doc other day, her 95th. Was a bit out of it, but walking around and doing ok. Dying young is for the weak and gets you nowhere if you have any kind of motivation, go for it. Don't be a drag on everyone, but usually most aren't.

I always associate it with this old sizzle trailer from Paramount.


It was on my VHS copy of Star Trek First Contact and I watched that movie so much the trailer was burned into my brain about as deeply as Patrick Stewart snarling "The line must be drawn HERE! This far and no farther!" RIP Bonnie. You always helped me get excited to see Picard and crew kicking Borg ass.

If that's the state your in, I understand. That's not all people. I work with a lot of patients that are just terrified to die, and their bodies are giving out. They usually took miserable care of themselves.

I am beyond 15 years when I should've died. So to me this is all bonus time.

I do hear that even hospice patients can get amazed when told they only have a few weeks left at most and react in terror or denial.. My family history has a mix of drawn out cancer and sudden dropped dead, not many really ended up end stage hospitals. To me, making peace with Jesus is something one should do by their 40s, or never will. Never know, but the few times I've 'come close' I wasn't scared at all, just 'well, this is it maybe'.
 
I remember Holding Out for a Hero in that dog shit Saints Row the Third game.
Probably the only cool part of that game is at the end and it's a city wide gang war and you have to race to save the girl. Or let her die. But letting her die makes the song make no fucking sense at all
