Reddit was ground zero for the new athiest movement. They came up with "Im euphoric because of my own intellect" before china spun up their troll farms. It makes midwits feel intelligent and lets them piss on republican mommy and daddy that forced them to attend church as a kid.
I think I shared this before but the worst I ever saw was an older individual venting that they felt "pushed out" of a hobby they enjoyed by the younger generations/new blood and was essentially experiencing ageism.
The top rated reply read something like "Well older folks have a higher chance to be racist, transphobic, and bigotted, so these people discriminating against you are heckin valid."
One of the few times I actually went full MATI and raged at anyone online because I couldnt believe the hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance on display.

Either that or the advice would be to "Just break up with them"! No joke, there were dating advice stories where people were talking about normal arguments couples go through "Boyfriend is a terrible cook", "doesn't give out much", etc and the usual response is "Just break up with him". Even Reddit had to call out r/DatingAdvice for the shit advice the sub gives. Then again, redditors shouldn't be dating.
I could be wrong but weren't the Christian subreddits (even to this day) heavily moderated by atheist mods? I remember in the TheistVsAtheist debate subs where one of the rules was telling people to stop bringing a certain theist argument up (forgot which one it was) and how the sub has "experts" refuting the argument.

Kind of the egg or the chicken situation, annoying atheists were thing at the time already but it quickly became Reddit's "thing", their online popularity (or infamy) came mostly from reddit's own effort in promoting it so hard and corraling the entire demographic in a way that was not replicated anywhere else. There's a reason when even today anyone that think about atheism thinks about reddit specifically, all the astroturf they did backfired on the whole site's reputation spectacularly , it was reddit first big propaganda campaign or at least the first major one before all those people jumped to social justice and orange man bad.
