These arguments happen alot of the time on discord also. people cop out and say you are not being civil. Newsflash my man that not everyone is going to be. Reddit has been kinda tweaking the comment sorting algorithm so that semi-controversial comments with a lot of engagement bubble towards the top. It helps a little.
Unfortunately it's having trouble defeating the swarm of morbidly obese manchildren who upvote any Always Sunny reference they see.
