The fact is that Orban is Putin's buddy despite everything, and he does control a lot of the media in the country, effectively creating this media bubble and parallel universe, which he now has no choice but to maintain if he wants to remain in power, even if it means being ditched by everybody in the EU. He's the only EU Putin buddy who didn't just quietly retreat, and this is costing Hungary allies. Even Poland ditched Hungary over this.
The concern about Hungary being a mole in the EU and NATO is not unrealistic, seeing how Orban has been sponsored by Putin for quite some time now, as have been many other far right politicians in the EU.
