A 'meme' I've been seeing a lot of lately not only on reddit but on other places around the internet. Though I'm not sure its intentional enough to be called a meme. People will be talking about x law or regulation or an instance of violation of x law or regulation. And some random jackass will chime in with 'but Trump/rightwing figure did x!' seemingly to question why x law or regulation is in place but usually there is no indication they actually oppose whatever law is being talked about. Which is usually some basic common sense law thats not politically controversial at all. So its just some random way to derail conversations. But on extremely politically lopsided places like reddit everybody goes along with it and its a common way TDS gets into unrelated subs.
