For an open world game, RDR2 loves to take as much control or agency away from the player as much as possible. Also, how can this game have detailed, photorealistic graphics, advanced game mechanics like hunger, cleanliness or horse care, draw out every action with 20 second animations, yet have a rudimentary wanted system where any negative action immediately alerts the authorities regardless of location?

i played this game on release but didnt finish the epilogue and at the time didnt think much of it. now im replaying at ultra on my pc and goddamn is a beatifull game and really cozy. great game, much better than V and i hope VI follow this

There's something satisfying about being out on the open plains with nobody in sight and cresting a hill you see a covered wagon or stage and decide to turn around and throw a molotov at the wheel and watch the hilarity ensue, you don't realize how fast those fuckers can go until they're down to two wheels and the people inside are cooking like a mobile smoker.

Yet none of it fuckin matters. Run your horse ragged, hit it everytime you appraoch and feed it nothing but steroids. Never bathe. Never eat or clean your guns. Only fuel yourself with snake oil and adrenaline shots. Game doesn't give a fuck because these things are just window dressing to make you think it's deeper than it is.

That’s not exactly true. If you feed the horse certain foods, it could gain weight and slow down. If you don’t bathe, pedestrians will respond. I think your stamina is affected as well. Dirty guns affect performance.

I really enjoyed most of RDR2, save for not-insignificant parts of the writing, but I noticed this pretty fast. Close to 300 hours in SP alone, I don't think I ever once used any of the health or stamina recipes beyond a handful of the basic bitch ones, either for myself or my horse. Never needed to. Never cleaned my gun out in the field, pretty much only when I found myself in a gunstore, usually to see if my progression had unlocked any guns. Rarely ate except to keep the core up, you could probably get through 100+% of the game with a few boxes of crackers. I barely ate much more than that myself, except to see what the fuck was up with the weight system (not only does it not matter but it seems totally broken, especially for horses).

Guess they just didn't want to filter the normies.

edit: I don't recall bathing except maybe once. IIRC think just getting wet has the same result. It doesn't fucking matter.
