All of Smith's work was prior to the marginal revolution where all economists considered value derived from labor and not value being subjective. So they cherry pick all what they can from his work that fits in with the labor theory of value (what Marxists believe).

Society produces goods and services to improve our lives and quality of life improvement from said goods/services is subjective. Why does production of goods/services happen at all? Labor theory can't explain why we'd bother making anything specific; it just assumes labor magically creates value. In reality, labor only has value because consumers subjectively value the actual goods/services.

Funny thing is Marx doesn’t even believe that all value is created by labor. That’s something revisionists (aka Social Democrats) created as a justification of Reformed Capitalism.
