Got my account banned and it's really made me reflect upon the current state of the website after being active on it for so many years. RYM will likely just continue to keep running itself to the ground. The genuine older users are slowly growing more and more inactive as given with any website, and the new users that keep pouring in being consistently neurodivergent genderspecials will likely attract even more neurodivergent genderspecials. The troons will keep giving their own terminally online music insanely high ratings, with these random albums sticking out like sore thumbs in charts alongside the actual classics, while alienating pretty much anyone actually normal who might find interest in the website. And this combined with the ridiculous banning policy just leads me to seeing a slowly diminishing pool of people actually willing to use it. One of my ban reasons genuinely was rating HH by Kanye a 5/5 This is especially ironic given the fact I actually did have some troon stuff in my 5s as well since I try to seperate art from the artist if I can. I can't be too upset for my ban due to these factors. It was useful for a time, but really once you've found pretty much everything you're "into," there's not much use beyond that. The community there is quite terrible and not worth staying for. I'd give RYM the website a... 3.4/10.
They've been making it more and more annoying to use the site as a banned user. For whatever reason now as a banned user you cannot go past the first most recent page of ratings, and you can't sort the reviews (e.g. by length), if you try it just sends you to the ban message page. It was not like this until maybe a year ago at most.
Personally I've been using the site while banned for the best of 5 years now (other than the occasional account on my phone which goes unbanned for a while). These days I use the site for movies much more than I do for music, the movies side of the site is, in my opinion, the best movie site for me. I find the movie charts to be very helpful and thanks to them have discovered over a thousand films that I have enjoyed. I also have found older charts to be helpful, for example limiting the chart to death metal demos from 1984 to 1994.
I found a random obscure release from a few years ago with only 10 ratings that a femboy on the cover and I typed "the raped." Full hardcore ban in less than an hour. The only explanation I got was that "rape is NOT funny, also you have HH rated a five so get owned chud."
Anything's better than Letterboxd! The movie side is surprisingly good, but it's likely because it's a sub-site of an already pretty obscure website to those who aren't terminally online.

I spent a lot of time on RYM many years ago before I got banned. It was the first thing that peeked me to the tranny infestation of online communities in the mid 10s. (anyone remember a guy called crystalbird or something like that? he was like a prototype of the modern day AGP pyscho. oh, and seeing what that annoying faggot epithalamion really looked like was especially enlightening). Can't believe it's been over 10 years now and that nigger sharifi still hasn't upgraded the site, glad i didn't waste my money on that scam.
You can definitely notice the demographic change from boomers to the terminally online in the top charts, with TPAB reaching number 1 especially emblematic of the site's descent into hardcore leftist lunacy.
I will second @_______________________- opinion that the movie section is the best part of the site, and i pretty much exclusively used the site for movie cataloging in later years. Although there is still some retarded shit over there (like that stupid twin peaks pilot nobody watched. And there is no way EoE is one of the top 10 films of all time, and I'm saying that as someone who liked it) overall it's a lot better than the music side.
I was a bit autistic with database corrections so that's probably why only got perma'd on my 3rd ban.

Site is full of trannies, but I gotta say, thanks to RYM lists and recommendations, I have been discovering LOTS of hidden gems and weird albums to hear later, and as a Metalhead who needs to know everything just to feel importante and unique in the niche I just love it so much.

Some certain connections work through ProtonVPN for me. Sometimes it's a matter of trial and error but usually within 4 disconnections and reconnections I manage to get through to the site.
