I don't understand why people invest any energy into the Oscars. The Oscars have always been a self-congratulatory, insular circle-jerk and I don't understand why you would need their fucking validation. The Best Picture category is infamous for not actually being given to the best movie of that year. And you act shocked because of this?

It's ironic how they're piling on Viggo Mortensen for saying the word "nigger" when he explicitly used it in a context to make a point AGAINST racism (something along the lines of "referring to black people as niggers is seen as bad nowadays").

The Oscars have always been notorious nothing but feel good self congratulation. I think the creation of a category like best picture is the problem in and of itself. Stuff like writing, directing , and effects at least have some standard of quality but "best" picture is so vague it could really go to anything. This means the category can be used for shilling and virtue signaling while pretending to be the most important category.

Black Panther wasn't bad or anything, if you like Marvel capefilms, you'll probably like it, it's on par with all the others. But, that's just it, it's the same quality as Marvel's movies usually are, nothing particularly earth-shattering.
