Color me surprised. I figured that John/Bri was good for about a five percent chunk of the votes, based on what I know about past performances of fringe-candidates in three-way by-elections. Agree with above posters that Bay State Proglodytes read Brianna's name on the ballot, thought Woman of Color, and automatically voted for him/her, knowing (and caring) nothing about their background.

John/Bri came in second, and took roughly 23% of the vote. Which is far more than most of us thought s/he would get.

It was a primary election, so victor Stephen Lynch (D) will go on to face his Republican opponent in November. He's almost guaranteed to win in such a deep-Blue district.

She's actually taking her loss pretty well and admitting to her mistakes. I'm impressed.

I don't know what she considers mistakes (like if she's still adament on the whole moon rocks thing) but hey, baby steps.

I felt the exact same way. I guess it was because this is the absolute closest thing she has to winning. She even managed to beat some other jobber somehow.

Again, I'm really curious what she thinks are "mistakes" and how she's going to try to fix her campaign. It might even result in her running it even worse than before.

I imagine what helped Wu was the press stories that came out conveniently days before the Primary.

Lynch naturally being the winning candidate for so long means people do gradually (by nature) begin to long for a new alternative unless he's done a really stunning job in the present term.

We know Wu's campaign for a fair period was run off Warren's back and while the lad is a but bonkers, he probably comes off nicer than Wu herself. But think what will help is people seeing the stories or drama featuring her and going "well I remember seeing her in the paper the other day so I'm gonna vote for her".

Also lol at anyone thinking she'll do video games again. Wu's clearly over the video game developer - as running for congress means she's always the most important person in the whole operation and doesn't require slaving over code or relying on others *as much* to make something happen.

Y'know, I'm from Eastern Mass, but I can hardly tell you much about this mystical 8th district, so I don't know what the people are like there. But I'm confident in saying that my district (#4, Kennedy) wouldn't pull this crap.
