PFAS Contamination General - We're all Mudbloods now

I've just accepted it call me whatever you want but humanity (and all unknowing other life forms on Earth AND Earth itself) have been infiltrated by plastic. It is in our DNA now, in every facet of existence it is inescapable it's in the air the earth the water here there everywhere. It's the same shit as the industrial revolution with smog but just more insidious and invisible and everlasting. It's even in our balls man, it's in our balls. It's over.

Skipping the "lol bloodletting, what, are we gonna use leeches next" initial response, could this realistically work with dialysis?
From what ive seen it kinda works, but its not really the dialysis itself. Since dialysis patients are being stabbed a couple times a week, the inevitable bits of blood loss build up over time, making it similar to bloodletting.

In the blood, PFAS mostly bonds to albumin, a protein. And since dialysis is trying to filter out larger molecule toxins while conserving proteins, blood cells, etc. Most PFAS slips through the net.

Also funny enough leeches are indeed used in modern medicine, mostly to remove pooled blood from reattached limbs and such.

Nawww humans are hard to get rid of, more than likely some fkn eskimo group is going to have some weird gene that happens to make them extra resilient to PFAS, and they'll be more productive than other groups.

Or we'll all just eventually evolve ways to filter out PFAS naturally within our bodies, but thats thinking very long term. Id rather try some solutions now

Also whoever put the thread in the front page rotation thing thanks so much 🫡🫡

The airforce firefighting equipment contaminating the groundwater where i grew up probably was a contrubitor to me having had leukeamia, couldnt attend a clinic to get tested due to been bedridden on the cancer ward when they were doing it
lol i got fucked up by USAF firefighting contamination too but i just have fucked up stomach diseases not canceraids. maybe in the future though

Anything I ought to look out for with that? My grandfather had it and it got him.

I only had blood let after i was clear post SCT due to excess iron

This was on the thread about France sperging about American AC.

Don't worry, even though PFAS are pretty much everywhere, you arent exposing yourself to PFAS from AC as long as youre using a unit thats functioning correctly.

She is right that PFAS is in many synthetic refrigerents that AC units use, but those wont leak into your air as long as you have a system thats not broken.

look the amount of pfas in my frying pan is like maybe a black peppercorn sized amount spread over the entire thing and maybe like at worst a fifth of that is going to come off and enter my body if the thing starts peeling.

is that seriously a dangerous amount of this plastic? it's most notable chemical characteristic is how inert it is. is it a hormone disruptor? does it interfere with any biological processes? otherwise i seriously don't understand why this should be a concern for me when cooking food in the pan at a high temperature exposes you to a whole of other worse things anyways

dont notice any difference curently living close to the hole in south Australia
The hole isn't formed at this time of year regardless but my point wasn't that the world was destroyed by 70s propellant, my point was that damaging the ozone as much as we did and as much as we could have if we didn't internationally agree to stop doing it was a much greater danger to humanity's welfare than microplastics probably are
Maybe one day we'll find out microplastics create super mega ass cancer or something and I'll look retarded, but so far I'm not convinced

i have gotten leukemia, but havent suffered from skin cancer yet, i have noticed i sunburn faster without noticing, but i put that to moving from the subtropics to a temperate climate. I know im closer to the hole, but dont know if i am actually below it

I mean when you compare it to all of us burning to death, yeah its not as immediate a crisis, but you still avoid asbestos even though it wont burn your skin off, right? PFAS presents a slow burning, nefarious kind of threat over the long term. And just like with asbestos in the 50s, we're putting it in everything because its economical and damn the consequences.

As for pans, its not that big of a deal by itself, but every source you can remove from your life the better. Especially when cast iron or stainless steel exist, but i get the convenience of nonstick. Just remember, you're trading convenience for preventable exposure. If youre ok with that then thats up to you
