Recently, I've genuinely been surprised when someone who's called a "Nazi" actually turns out to be an antisemitic white supremacist who likes Hitler's ideas.

it's not even that these days, it's narrowed down to Nazi =anyone to the right of Lenin. Because of course you'll get wiseass feminists who will say shit like "I disagree about X topic with Y person who agrees with me on everything else including feminism and I don't think they're a Nazi".

Often I find myself wishing on a star, on Christmas, on Aladdin's magic lamp that bears a striking resemblance to a neti pot that squirts salt water into your sinuses, for something literally rape, Holocaust, torture to happen to a literally Hitler dipshit, but then I remind myself that a ton of other people would end up as collateral damage. It's fucking bullshit. Maybe we could pack 'em into a sardine tin, fly 'em to Korea, and drop them off at the North and South border with a handful of papers identifying them as foreign spies. That could work.
 
Liberals act like Nazis like the creatures from They Live! or something. They look like ordinary people but as soon as you become an obnoxious "woke" sjw they suddenly morph into horrific monsters.

One time on the History Channel, back when all they did was WWII documentaries, they showed a clip of Hitler happily playing with his dog at his summer home. Before I realized was happening, I exclaimed, "Awww!"

Nazis are people, too. This is not a positive statement about Nazis or humanity. We all have the capacity to be evil fucking sociopaths. If you delude yourself into believing that Nazis cannot be polite, sympathetic, eloquent, or whatever positive attribute you ascribe solely to the morally righteous, you're going to get taken for a fucking ride by the first ideologue with a charming smile or a convincing sob story.

Have to remember, "Nazi" has lost all meaning thanks to these guys since all it means now is "Someone who doesn't agree with me" or, if you're under 21 "Dad when he won't pay me an allowance". It's like "Racist" was 2 years ago

It's a way to deny that they or someone they like is even capable of doing heinous things. If they're able to categorize Nazis/killers/abusers/etc. as just being evil monsters and not everyday people they can tell themselves that they'd never do anything that can cause a serious negative impact on anyone because they're not 'evil'.

Assuming they got the right guy, they've just succeeded in pushing him deeper into the alt-right.
