The sub-community I'm monitoring (apparently) has decided not officially "affiliate" with ResetEra. I guess they're using a weird federated style of community verification.

Their worldview has degenerated into a warped binary of good versus evil, and all they need are to be fed the slightest and simplest narrative points and they'll all jump on the side with the minorities and screeching obsessively about the other side being far-right neo-nazi literal hitlers.

But actual far left sentiments behind their insane shrieking? Not seeing a whole lot, to be honest. Communism, anarchism, radical reworking of the status quo? Not really their cup of tea. The vast majority of these idiots aren't political extremists, they're just screeching faggots desperate to be the most correct person in the room and stomp anyone and anything that disagrees. It's all noise and ego.

Is the "not seeing a whole lot" referring to that screenshot earlier about how freedom of speech is outdated and how we need to slap SSNs onto internet accounts to stop what they consider to be internet Nazis?

No? Destroying anonymity on the internet falls pretty dead-center of the political spectrum. It's something only people who consider themselves the 'moral majority' would ever support, something the corporatists and their tamed whores want, and something that clueless facebook soccer moms will sign off on because 'trolls' and 'terrorists' sure are bad. Nobody on the far-left or far-right wants that because it will be ruinous to their dumb gay cause.

They're all extreme, I didn't mean to say they weren't. People who aren't pants-shitting extremists don't create such pathetic bubbles. In this case, yeah, 'It's good to assault people who disagree with us' is an extreme viewpoint. But "...and the people I disagree with are neo-nazis" just isn't inherently far-left. These people are taking bland, dumb, centrist viewpoints (I hate nazis) and then going full-blown days of rage with them (SO LET'S ASSAULT THEM).

That is actually also the normal reaction to have in the States, even in the backwoods boondocks middle of fuckin' nowhere, with a couple of exceptional exceptions, of course. It's funny, isn't it, how just treating something like it's totally normal in a casual way will in fact make it so, but having to announce it at every available moment just annoys people. It's so weird!

Kind of like how I was going to post about how I just don't understand why Tyler wouldn't have just made a simple statement that said what happened had been a misunderstanding, a drunken miscommunication, that he had made a mistake and was wrong. He didn't even have to actually believe that he was wrong in any way, shape, or form, but even that kind of half assed apology would have taken the wind out of all sorts of righteous sails, and while some people might have continued to hold it over his head, most people would have just shrugged and gone on with their lives because who even actually cares, honestly.

But then I thought about it a bit more, and remembered that that is how things would go irl, in most of the world, but not how it would fly in a place that had been tailor made to not only jump on any and every opportunity to witch hunt, but to also hold grudge for forever and a day. If he'd made an actual apology, I'm pretty sure the rest of the internet would take that- still make merciless fun of him, of course, but the average person who knew about him and the circumstances would have had their innate need for the appearance of justice being served appeased. But not the nest of vipers that he made. But I suppose that's what you get, when you spend years and years crafting the net's version of the Spanish Inquisition.

Which nobody had expected.

That's the best part of it. Had Malka not fostered and orchestrated purges that got rid of people who questioned the "listen and believe" philosophy of the website, there would be a contingent there would have leapt to his defense.

This is the same website who demodded one of the longest-running moderators for saying (and I'm paraphrasing) "Hey, I hate Nazis as much as the rest of you, but I don't think physical violence is the best answer to that."

NeoGAF was riding on its own legacy, and that gave it clout. Now, with NeoGAF's reputation in shambles and a far-left forum developing that will have the worst of NeoGAF without any influence at all, both are doomed.

It will never happen because Malka is too proud to do anything.

He didn't step down immediately and brave the storm.
He made some half-assed apology and blamed the Off-Topic forum rather than the member base he cultivated.
He's never going to open up the forum to everyone.
He's not going to "go right" because he's so bound to his philosophy even that philosophy now hates him.

When is waypoint going to die? I know they’re giving it a couple years to grow the base but no one reads it. I never see articles from waypoint shared anywhere and their tweets aren’t highly retweeted.

To sum it up, you are saying their positions are centrist and what most people would agree on, but their behavior and inability to see nuance is what makes them extreme.

Not really an issue of actual substance, but more an issue of extreme behavior and temperament. These people look for fights despite the fact that there really isn't much disagreement with the actual positions themselves.

To be honest, there is an issue of this popping up in conservative politics in the US lately.
