I don't really give a damn about Mario plot, and I'm old and savvy enough to ignore the negative tropes perpetuated by a damsel-in-distress story...but kids are still being exposed to it, and for that reason it needs to change. We don't need Peach portrayed as a prize to be won (it doesn't matter if she's playable in other games - this could be a child's first Mario game).

This seems like they are the sexist ones here. I have played Mario games since I was a little kid and I never thought or anyone else I knew thought of Peach has prize. That seems like some serious objectification. Mario rescues Peach because it is the right thing to do. To help a fellow person.

People in here "don't care" because they've compartmentalized that particular generic, archaic plot as the norm in their Mario games. People need to understand that Nintendo continually using this damsel trope only adds fuel to the fire for the sexist representations of women in gaming. And, considering that Mario is the most visible gaming franchise, they need to do better.

Just because a game is not necessarily plot driven, that alone does not excuse their inclusion of well-worn tropes.

A male rescuing a female is not sexism. They still have not proven that any of these tropes are done out of sexism. Do they think Nintendo makes Mario rescue Peach because Nintendo hates women?

He's been doing this for years and has to have a few hundred threads that are promoting some new fast food item or deal. There's rarely any commentary from him in them. He usually just links to a blog, copies the text, and embeds an image of the item. A lot of the time he only posts once. Some of the members have noticed his love for junk food promotion, but when they ask if he's a shill, he never responds. It's been speculated that he was made a moderator so that users couldn't put him on ignore and miss out on his advertisement threads.

His favorite site to link to is Brand Eating. That's not the name I think an average Joe would use to describe adventures in diabetes. I can't find out who runs it. All of the posts are under a pen name. The site registration data is all private. The most I can get is that it was founded in Los Angeles. I was autistic enough to go through all of their Twitter followers and found out that the first dozen accounts were all the social media feeds for fast food joints. A lot of them follow thousands of people, but it's suspicious so many of them jumped on first to small blog.

Xia lives in California. He once banned someone because they didn't like his basketball team of choice. He claims to have worked at Industrial Lights & Magic.

He comes across as a paid shill, but he could just be extremely fat.

When I used to post there I remember a thread exactly about this shit, with people flat out asking why Mario wasn't the one kidnapped. I argued that why the fuck would anybody kidnap Mario, he's a worthless fucking plumber. Meanwhile, Peach is royalty, she's the person in power which you could exchange for leverage or money or whatever.

My post was of course largely ignored.
