Here's a rule of thumb; it's not a forum rule or anything, just something to make your life easier:

Never argue with anyone beyond two posts. Otherwise, you're derailing whatever thread you're posting in. You can take it to DMs, you can call the person a slur and move on, or you can simply let it go. This is a particularly useful rule of thumb if the person you're arguing with is acting very hostile, calling you names, impugning your honesty or character, etc.

There is NO POINT in continuing to argue with someone who isn't arguing with you in good faith. Now, what is "good faith"? It's when someone considers your points and responds to those points, provides additional data in the form of links or articles, and seems like they might be willing to change their mind if you can convince them with a strong enough argument.

That's the difference between "argument" and "discussion"; a discussion adds information on both sides and has a possibility of influencing people's views, while an argument is two people slinging shit at each other, and neither person is interested in learning more or changing their minds. Discussions can be interesting for uninvolved bystanders to read, but arguments almost never are.
