So... forgive me for dropping this on this thread like three years later, but one of the dominant narratives is a lil off, and I feel the need to Correct The Record™ because the true story is even better.

So, yes, MM doxed some random kid for a rape threat. But the kid in question didn't issue said threat. Basically, channers were fucking around and having a laugh over how hyper-sensitive Tumblr could be and how quick to life-ruination they were, and decided to play games.

So some channer took some random kid's face (could have been one of his enemies, who knows) and used it to send a rape threat to MM. MM (presumably a grown adult who should have taken five seconds to think the whole thing through) immediately sends her Tumblr mob to ruin the (again, uninvolved in these shenanigans) kid's life. When MM realized how badly she'd fucked up, instead of taking pause to reconsider whether her own actions were appropriate, she blamed 4chan for the shit the kid received (that MM had called for him to receive).

Unfortunately the best documentation I could find on the quick for all of this is this Imgur/Reddit image macro, but it does an almost passable job:

Okay if someone sent me something like that off anon and with their face attached to their fucking blog, I’d pretty quickly figure out that something was up. MM is a moron.
 
MM has always bugged me and I never got why she was popular. I remember some mutuals of mine back in the day would reblog her eyerollingly bad content which not only made me judge her, but made me judge my mutuals.

By the way I know why she felt justified in doxxing an innocent person, or a young person, or doxxed in general. People on Tumblr have this belief that if someone does or says something bad to them, then they have the right to send their followers on them. I once witnessed an older black man dox a 15 year old girl because she was debating him and she reblogged with a slur to him. He found out her name and address and posted it and told his followers to reblog it, and taunted the teenager and called her parents. People actually backed this guy up and defended him. The weird thing is it happened long ago and I've never found this story since. But I saw it happen.

People on Tumblr usually have a holier than thou complex, to the point that they think that every action they do is somehow for the greater good. That's probably why they're so willing to dox and harass anyone who ever so slightly steps out of line, because in their mind they're the only ones in the right, since theyre the only ones protecting poor innocent oppressed victims.

Sometimes I have to wonder if people on tumblr just are looking for a platform to throw their supposed power over other people around, and what better way to do that than to act like you're doing it to protect marginalized groups like smol gay trans disabled pee oh cee women?

I really wish I could find the post but it's lost in the Tumblr verse. It was worse than the MM thing because this was a real 15 year old girl and adults leaked out her family's home and number. FFS man, she was 15. And people didn't call the guy out for being a dick.

Because obviously calling someone a slur during an argument is worse than doxing them and harassing both them and their family. Clearly they are the ones with better morals. Clearly.

Yes. Yes, they are.

Tumblr has a long history of fucking people over in the name of feeling righteous. One of the earliest examples was getting Vader the fox euthanized. It's still an example that makes a lot of people (including me) mad just remembering it.

It’s amazing to me that such escalating mob mentality can be so powerful online.
I get it, as a teen when you’re hanging out with your friends, awkward as fuck from all the bits on you that are growing and impossibly random intervals and all the hormones sloshing through you, that you and your buddies goad each other on to do stupid, stupid shit.
You know when you’re at home at night that holy shit one of you could have DIED from spraying your heads with hairspray, lighting it on fire and then jumping in the pool, but at that time it actually felt impossible to say no.
That’s the exact feel I get from tumbler, but instead of dumb and potientially life threatening dares that escalate until someone is calling 911 or everyone gets bored, it’s potientially life destroying moral outrage.
First everyone is getting likes for calling out blatant racism, but then someone finds a racist micro aggression and gets twice as many! Better catch up, maybe come up with a new way someone is appropriating your culture and try to get them fired, oh or take a socially acceptable word and find some ancient context wherein it’s actually calling for the genocide of all red heads!
Rinse and repeat in an echo chamber long enough and eventually you’ll lose all touch with reality and real life.

Man, at least people grow out of lighting their heads on fire for laughs once your body and mind stop changing sizes every week.
