It's a Perk. You lose a shit ton of carry weight, HP and charisma but most enemies run like fuck when they see you because they're afraid you'll preach at them to save the Radroaches and NPC shopkeepers will give you a discount that increases incrementally for every minute you're in their store as long as you agree to leave. They're never there when you go back however.
 
I don't know what it is about fried chicken that makes people lose their shit. Maybe it's just that good, that no-one can withstand its allure.

Also that Fallout skill check was funny.
 
I almost feel sorry for vegans because unless they leave the lifestyle they will never be able to experience the joy of biting into a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. I also weirdly always have vegans in mind when I do that.
