i've worked with horses for quite a while so i have a bit to say about this. prepare your autistic and powerlevel ratings.
for whatever reason, there seems to be a disproportionately high rate of batshittery amongst the equine enthusiast community, and from what i've witnessed myself (which is a lot since i live in an area where there's practically a 1:1 horse to human ratio) there are two main camps: the people who love their horses the same as they would with any pet, and... this. you'll either have someone that participates in equine sports or someone who thinks that doing anything to the animal outside of letting it stand around and do nothing in a field is horrific abuse.
ironically, what they don't realize is how nearly all domestic breeds of horse were, like dogs, tailored to work with people on some level, be it racing, farm work, or even pleasure riding, so if you kept it in a pasture and never ride it the thing is likely going to be bored out of its mind. that's not even covering what would happen if miss marysia got her wish and all horses we magically set free into the wild. i'll give you a hint: they ain't going to last too long. it's hard enough to keep them healthy under human care as it is what with all the diseases they're susceptible to, and that's under controlled circumstances. what makes her think they're going to thrive in the great outdoors? sure they won't be at risk for swayback, but they sure as hell will be at a risk for getting mauled to death by a predator, because let's face it, horses are dumb. and i mean really fucking dumb.
