The only reason I don't see it being a case of both is because the little Japanese fella they airdropped off the battle bus to sweep up Herman Hulst and Jim Ryan's fuck ups seems to be operating on a brutally cut-throat basis, so I don't think he'd play these kind of games unless it was to guarantee Sony gets to walk away from this mess with clean hands and Bungie left in ashes.

I don't want to derail with Destiny stuff too much, but Tyson Green's excuses make no sense to me. They can't run the expansions any more because they're not compatible with the current Destiny 2 build, okay fine, but presumably they still have the code and assets archived somewhere?

Surely they didn't just delete all the files after the expansions were sunsetted...

The idea of deleting expansions seems fucking retarded to me. If your game content is so worthless I'm supposed to be okay with never accessing it again forever why would I even deem it fit to play at all?

Well thats what the industry is now is seeing who can bomb the hardest. Bungie didn't even need to make it explicitly trans and gay to pull it off, impressive

I don't even understand how it can happen. Despite all the content changes, Destiny 2 plays exactly the same today as it did at launch, so I don't know what was in these expansions that would be unable to run on the current build of Destiny 2.

The whole thing sounds like cope bullshit to try and save face in the lawsuit, which I'd ordinarily rule out because it's so stupid, but this is the same Bungie that was dumb enough to steal artwork from an account followed by several prominent Bungie staff members so nothing is off the table any more.

When they upgraded the engine for Beyond Light they re-did the whole lighting system and shifted mission scripting to run on the client instead of the server, they also changed how enemy AI is handled to work as individual units instead of as squads, allowing more enemies with more behaviors with the new overhead from running missions on the client. This requires them to completely re-script and re-light everything again, at least that's their excuse.

I'm not going to pretend to know anything about game development, but I feel like the stuff you mentioned could have been ported over to the old expansions with a minimal amount of work.

I could believe that Bungie didn't want to waste the resources though, given it sounds like they're struggling to keep their heads above water with all the terrible decisions management has made as well as Sony being generally furious at them for fucking up on almost every deliverable that was agreed as part of the acquisition.

This can't be sustainable. We're talking billion dollar flops every year and the suits at the publishers still can't figure out why their games are bombing. The funding is gonna dry up as the investors jump ship.

Probably non-trivial work, given the rumours of how nigger-rigged the engine is behind the scenes.

That said, Bungo choosing not to spend money to at least make their old content work with their rework is on them, and I refuse to believe the pennies (in corporate terms) pinched in this has actually netted them any savings in the long run in terms of player goodwill and overall sales.

I dont know how I feel about that, a remake would be good, but going through a match just to get to the level sounds stupid.

Is a theme of this game drug use and haluzinogens? Because that's the impression I get with the hectic character movements, camera shots, the extreme closeups, the colors. It makes nothing look real. Like I'm supposed to feel like I'm tripping.
