what would you recommend as a public DNS?

I was using OpenNIC for a while, but got sick of having to change the servers on my router every week when yet another set of them would die. And right now 5 of the 13 US servers are down, so they're a non-starter in reliability terms. That's actually what convinced me to just roll my own.

As for leaving things running when not nearby, that's kinda what a server is for isn't it? And like I mentioned, the DNS on that will ONLY respond to queries from Pi-Hole on localhost, while the OS itself is only accessible via SSH on the local network. Everything else gets told to fuck right off.
