There's something really odd I've noticed.

Leftists have little to no regard (or rather, outright contempt) for the idea of private property, but are very protective of copyright or intellectual property. Whereas right wing libertarians tend to be the exact opposite, where they support physical private property but not intellectual property.

I will never understand why so many leftists are so anal about intellectual property.

Some thoughts on the matter:
The libertarian argument against intellectual property boils down to "intellectual property" not being scarce resources and any enforcement of "intellectual property rights" factually means expropriating others (for instance, if I as an intellectual property owner of a melody can forbid you from whistling it or insist on a fee if you do, I have become at least a partial owner of your vocal cords). The gist is that "intellectual property rights" contradict and violate property rights to real, physical goods.
On the leftist side, pretty much every single political, economic, and legal system proposed by them is based on expropriating others, be it through outright theft, looting, abolishing of private property, etc. Considering that IP is all about expropriating others, in this light, it is only logical and predictable that leftists are very pro-IP.
