The major West Coast to KC or Chicago lines for both UP and BNSF run through WY. UP has a line that goes west out of Denver, but it's pieced together from former(bought out) competitors trackage and has the includes the highest rail tunnel in North America. Basically, it's not a great route and at least part of the reason it's still active is it's pretty for the all the amtrak passengers.
Also, coal, I forgot coal. The WY to Chicago line is almost entirely containers from POLA/POLB.
