...how can you people like this? every single line of dialogue makes me cringe hard. Going full hammy is understandable in scenes where the characters yell in front of colored backgrounds, but why doing it at all times?

I don't really care about the dubs, but Ben Dickskin is a bad VA and shouldn't have played Joseph. He's the only bad thing about the Jojo dubs.

I dunno, Stroheim's english VA was disappointing in comparison to his Japanese counterpart. Not hammy enough.

Personally I prefer Ben Dickskin's performance as Joseph to Johnny Yong Bosch's performance as Jonathan, but both aren't very good.

Thanks to the Japanese Wiki (this is through a translator, not sure if link will work), I found he's a vocalist in the Japanese brass rock band BLUFF. After some quick searching of one of their songs, I found a video of a live concert (Tommy's the guy in the snazzy white hat):
