This needs to be emphasized.[...] I'm not sure what exactly they expect. You have a single sign-on account. You can use that account to log in to MaiOtaku, regardless of whether or not you've actually done so. You specifically go to MaiOtaku and request a password reset... is it supposed to tell you that you don't have an account? That's just going to cause people to create a new account with the same email address, and then I presume they'll just going to get an error message saying that they already do have an account associated with that email address, unless it lets them create a new username linked to the same email address, which would clutter up the SSO system with duplicate accounts. These people are just insane.
SSO means you have one, unique, account, for the site that you registered to. And that said account CAN be used for other sites by essentially having a flag for each site associated to it. But by default, all these flags are turned OFF, until the account holder manually turns them on.
Having an account that serves as SSO passport for a network of sites doesn't automatically mean you're part of all the sites. You need to actually activate your membership on each by hand.
